President Obama is set to announce his nominee to the Supreme Court at 11am EST. I'm sure many news outlets will have live coverage and SCOTUSblog is going to start live-blogging at 10:45am EST.

This nomination basically serves to put the GOP senators on notice. If they refuse to consider this very well liked and respected nominee, they risk letting Hillary pick a more liberal justice in 2017. Are they willing to pass on the chance at a moderate nominee and put all their eggs in the Trump basket?

Squee! I'm a SCOTUS nerd and I love this so much. And I personally don't think it's a dead end unless the Republican want to lose a substantial amount of Congressional seats in the next election. He's a moderate and John Roberts has previously spoken of him with admiration and respect. He's a compromise choice, in my opinion.

@travellingbee: lol. the cynic in me says obama saw a landslide victory coming for trump last night and thought "well, I'll announce a moderate choice the next morning, when establishment repubs are feeling most vulnerable!"

SCOTUSblog has a scholar on Supreme Court Confirmations and Constitutional Law professor guest blogging. He said "I am sure that the people who do not want President Obama to make the nomination will holler politics. But, you cannot look at his career and think this is anything but an appointment based on merit. No President could nominate a stronger candidate."

You know, I can't even geek out about the nomination like I want to because I so infuriated with Senate Republicans for their ridiculous stance that they won't hold a hearing. It's so disgusting that I am actually much more fired up about that than about Trump's victories last night. And that says a lot.
