I've really been wanting to get the girls Magna-Tiles, but they are SO expensive. I'm wondering if anyone has another similar brand that they would recommend.

We like Play Mags. They are actually compatible with MagnaTiles so you can mix and match sets. I can't tell them apart without looking at them closely to read the logo.

I just ordered these: https://www.amazon.com/Winning-Magnetic-Stick-Stack-different/dp/B013T6Q0BY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8.
The reviews are good and they are compatible with magna tiles. A lot of the reviews say the magnets on these are stronger than the magna tile ones.

We have Magformers and are really happy with them so far. I have heard some people say their kids broke them, but ours are going strong six months in (and my girls don't always use them in the intended manner). They regularly go on sale on Amazon.

Wow, there are so many options now! I want to expand what we have, but my son is kind of used to magnatiles now, and I am not sure how it would go if i bring in other ones...
What I can't find with the other brands is if the magnets are oppositional or not, meaning you have to put them together in a certain way. With Magnatiles, you can put them together however you want, you don't have to find the polarity.

We already had a large set of Magnatiles when we were gifted a set of Magformers. Both are great! DD plays with both sets all the time.

@looch: Just a quick glance, someone actually posted a question about that on the ones that @Pumpkin Pie: linked to and the person answered that they don't have polarity issues.
D's school just got some magnetic tiles and he's completely obsessed, so we're putting "sticky blocks" on his Christmas list! I'll try to find out what brand school uses, because they seem strong and like they have no polarity issues (from the little that I've seen D and theother kids playing with them).

Thanks everyone! I was just looking at the Picasso Tiles and Playmags.

Not a different brand, but I just wanted to mention that I have gotten all our magnatiles on sale. The most recent one was with a Barnes and Nobles coupon code for 40% off. That ended up being less expensive than picasso tiles actually. Worth looking into if you have time to wait for a coupon or sale to pop up.

@catlady: oh, ok! I'm bad at finding coupons. Let me know if you see any please!

This is great info, thanks all!
I was wondering about all of the off brands I saw on Amazon.
