I have the all in one freetime diapers by bum genius and your right they are just like regular diapers except that you wash them and reuse them. I dont know much about pocket diapers though because I havent used them

I use pockets mostly exclusively.

So basically they have a PUL waterproof outer layer, the inside is usually micro fleece. There is a pocket at the back of the diaper where you put an insert; those can be made of cotton, micro fiber, bamboo, or hemp. You put the insert inside the pocket. At night I use two inserts. When I change him I take the insert out of the cover and put BOTH the insert and diaper in the diaper pail. There are a few advantages vs AIOs.
1. They have adjustable absorbency because you can stuff it with more than one insert, or with different types (hemp and bamboo are way more absorbent than the most common micro fiber).
2. Drying time is less, whether you use the dryer of a clothesline (I hang them on the shower rod!). With AIOs I have to run them 3 cycles in the dryer.
3. They are considerably cheaper than AIOs.

These people have answered your questions, but I just wanted to say that we recently moved from AIO newborns to pocket one size diapers and I am soooooooooooooooo happy about how much faster they dry. Plus, I do love the option of extra stuffing for overnight. Did that last night and I think I'll do it again.

@cvbee: I like having the option to line dry since it increases their life-span. But I will say how much I love how much less bulky the AIO's are, they are very trim.

I didn't think the g diapers had a learning curve at all, not sure what that refers to, but it's an outer pant, a PUL liner and then the cloth insert. We started with 6 pants and 24 inserts.

@artbee: It really is. I HATE stuffing diapers. HATE it! When I bought my stash, the bumGenius AIOs were the sewn in kind, so it took forever. When the Freetimes came out I was SO upset. I had my stash and wasn't going to make it over when I have more than enough. I bought 4 though.LOL I LOVE them. Glad they made the flaps able to come out and it helps with drying time. Wish I was going to have another because then I'd feel justified in buying more diapers.lol
