I don't think there is any true order that you have to watch them in. I think Thor came out first, but I could be wrong.

It's sort of confusing because they didn't come out in correct order I don't think. However I have seen some articles online that help put everything in order.

@NaturallyCathy: Hehe. I did not like Captain America. Thor was a cheesy romp and amused me, and I Iron Man. Iron Man 2, not so much. I think we didn't even watch Captain America before Avengers, so I was a bit confused, but if you want to turn it off now and watch Avengers, you'll be fine

Yah, and then to make things really confusing...there are 3 Hulks. But technically you can ignore the ones wo Marc Ruffalo - the Ed Norton version is OK,, and the Eric bana one sucks.

@dagret: wait, did I miss a Mark Ruffalo Hulk movie? I thought he was just the hulk in the Avengers?

@NaturallyCathy: Not sure if you have been or not, but at the end of the credits of each movie, there's a little scene. That scene is usually the big tie-in for the other movies, connecting them altogether.

@NaturallyCathy: Did you catch it in the Iron Man movies?

@NaturallyCathy: haha, things probably would've made more sense if you caught those scenes. I forget exactly what's in them, but I know at the end of Iron Man is when we're first introduced to SHIELD (the organization that brought all the Avengers together). Then at the end of another movie, they talk about how they found a hammer in the desert (referring to Thor of course). And I forget which one had it, but I think the end of Thor shows stuff about Loki, which ties in to the Avengers movie.

@NaturallyCathy: Glad fellow Superhero movie lovers are chiming in! I felt the same way about Captain America - I wanted to like it but found it kind of slow. I liked Thor (and Thor himself ;-)) and the first Iron Man is awesome.

I didn't watch them in any particular order, but I have seen them all. The most boring for me was The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton. The Eric Bana one doesn't count, I don't think haha. I do love Edward Norton though... but it was still boring.

My favorites are the Iron Man movies for sure, although I still haven't seen 3! Who doesn't love Tony Stark?! *swoon* and I thought Thor was pretty entertaining, too.

I just wish these would never end, haha.

@.twist.: Mark Ruffalo was the first Hulk who actually played the Hulk! Through stop motion capture, Avatar-style... the earlier Hulks were CGI, which I think really hurt the movies. Oh plus, the plots of those movies were also just awful.

@.twist.: I was disappointed in Natalie Portman's character in Thor... plus the villain seemed a bit weak to me.

Ok - I kept thinking about this because I knew I had seen something. The technical "in-universe" order of the films is:

Iron Man
Iron Man 2
Incredible Hulk
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
