Our daughter is starting to walk at 10.5 months. She'll be moving up to the 1 yr old room at daycare soon where the kids go outside twice per day. We live in a wet climate and the playground has wood chips. What kind of outdoor shoes did you use for your early walker?

A lot of the brands are now making washable shoes which is a great concept (SKR, PediPed, Stride Rite). Those brands also carry very flexible soles for early walkers.

Exactly what @T.H.O.U.: said! C's first shoes when she was actually walking were stride rite- cute, very flexible for learning to walk, and not too expensive because we have an outlet near us (though prices are similar to regular stores really!). See Kai Run Smallers are also great- I got a pair on the classified here that were barely used, since they grow out of them before wearing them out at this age.

We used Stonz booties but they honestly were a crappy solution.
DD2 walked at eight months and wore size one. There are no shoes sold that are suitable for outdoor walking in such a small size. Fortunately she's now at 12 months wearing a size three and I'm finding some ok shoes for her to walk in. It's still tough, because most early walkers start at size four. -
DD has big feet so she was already a size 4 as a walker at 11-ish months. We were mostly in soft mocs, and now at 14 mo she is in Stride Rite, and Jack & Lily. I put Stride Rite when we go out where she could be outdoors. I put on Jack & Lily that has a softer/more flexible sole when she'll mostly be walking indoors.

Good to know about the sizes. I'll have to measure her feet. She's 85% for height and weight so I'm hopeful that the sizing will be ok since she's big.
