I know more and more companies are offering paid maternity/paternity leave. Does your company offer it? If so say below how much and where you are located!

I can take up to 6 months with benefits, but it's unpaid (except what paid sick time I have accured). D gets 3 days of paid paternal leave. I REALLY wish I got any real paid maternity leave, but the rest of my benefits are awesome (I work for the state).

I actually got it with LO 1 because my boss had told us verbally we would, then changed his mind when it actually came time to use it! Luckily I had it in writing 3 months prior that he was going to give me maternity.... BUT I still had to work from home a couple hours a day throughout.
With LO 2 I will not get paid leave, and took out short term disability to cover 6 weeks.

SO has gotten 3 months of fully paid leave at both jobs he's worked at, which I suspect is a combination of working in technology and living in Massachusetts.

Me - no. SO 1 month this year but increased to 3 months paternity leave (5 months maternity I think) starting 2016. PNW.

I'm in Canada, but my employer tops up 70% for 17 weeks. DH's employer tops up 80% for the full year.
The government pays 55% up to a maximum amount so the employer will pay the excess of that and the top up.

My work does give us a week as "a gift" of extra vacation, but it's actually our "unpaid" week of vacation they give us turned into paid. So after using up all of my vacation during maternity leave (which was required by them) I had no days what so ever to use for 8 months until I renewed. This was rough!

I have short term disability plus the company provides 2 weeks for maternity or paternity leave. My husband's company doesn't offer any leave.

I get 12 weeks with full pay and up to four weeks unpaid if I choose to take it. DH gets 6 weeks. We're very lucky. They've also recently started covering all prenatal and delivery costs 100% without hitting the deductible.

Like @Freckles, we're in Canada, so DH and I would share leave (although it looks like I'll be taking the full year now). Our employer will top off to 91% of our salary, for any new parent; although 17 weeks of benefits are strictly for the woman.

As a teacher, I can get 6 weeks "paid" leave by using sick time. We can take up to 2 years unpaid, but we lose our benefits after 3 months.

This makes me so mad that the US doesn't have better maternity leave policies. Grrrr. I'm just imagining being able to take a year and still making 70% of my annual salary!!!!! I could still pay my mortgage and save on childcare.

I think I get a month of paid, then 8 more weeks under unpaid FMLA. I can't combine that month paid with 12 weeks of FMLA.
I have to double-check with HR, but I think I do get at least 1 month paid. I work in higher education.
H gets a few weeks paid, but nor does he have any set vacation or sick days...so whatever he is comfortable taking (probably not much, with his work culture). He is in technology.

I'm in one of the few states (NJ) with paid maternity leave (none offered directly from the hospital I work at). So I get 4 weeks pre-birth, 8 weeks post-birth from disability (due to RCS), and 6 weeks paid from the state - all at 2/3 salary. I consider it to be pretty good.

Neither of us get any. I get 4 weeks of STD at 60%, but I don't consider that maternity leave.

Yes and Yes. 16 weeks for me, 1 week for DH. DC area, both in Management/IT consulting.

@Alba4: oh I know, I get so upset at our country's politicians. It's all about the bottom-line here in the US. things will change in the future, but not soon enough for me. Hopefully and if I have daughters, it will be better for them in the workplace if they want to become mothers.

I get 4 weeks before delivery and 6-8 weeks post delivery (depending on vaginal or c-section) at 50% salary, then I get to use whatever leave credits I've accrued and have the option of taking it over a longer period of time at a reduced rate if I choose (i.e. take 50% for 1 month off vs. 100% salary for 2 weeks off). I'm also allowed to take up to a year off in combination with all these leave policies, so for DS had about 4 months on 50% pay and then took 8 months unpaid.
*ETA: CA. Attorney.

No and no. IL
My husbands company actually offers in other countries just not in the US

Yes and yes. We are so fortunate. I get 12 weeks paid and DH gets 2 or 3 weeks paid.

My company pays for STD. Typical six weeks or eight weeks for c-section. Used to pay out 100 percent of your salary for that time, but starting this coming year it will be 70 percent I'm glad there's something, but the company I worked at before we moved offered 12 weeks full pay so...kind of a letdown.
ETA: on the plus side, I get five weeks PTO, which I will hoard throughout pregnancy (whenever that happens...)

My school (I'm a teacher) will pay me for 20 days, after I use up my sick time. I can take the remainder of up to 12 weeks unpaid, but they continue to pay their portion of my health benefits during that time.
DH has multiple part time jobs, so even if the companies offered paternity leave, he is not eligible.

I'm very lucky to get 12 weeks paid maternity leave. Indiana, lawyer. My husband gets nothing.

We are in California and I will get paid leave. SO will get unpaid leave through his employer but may qualify for paid leave through the state.

I SAH but DH gets 2 weeks paid paternity leave. We are in NC but he works for a Switzerland based pharmaceutical company.

My company is on the smaller side so there is no maternity policy. I'm hoping to get something from my work but I understand if I don't. However, I live in California so I will get a bit of disability pay for 6 weeks, I think, and I currently pay into a supplemental disability plan that will give me an extra percentage, which will put me near 90% pay for 6 or so weeks. But 6 weeks isn't enough. I'm staying in a tiny house with tiny mortgage just so I can take maternity leaves without pay if need be for a few months. I'm sure my husband gets paid leave, but not sure what it is. He certainly won't take it all.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
12 weeks paid maternity leave. Not sure about paternity leave, my guess it's not offered.
Same company abroad offers at least 6 months maternity leave.
clementine / 918 posts
@agold: Unless there's a reason you don't qualify (government employees often don't), state STD will pay up to four weeks before due date, 6 (vaginal) or 8 weeks (c-section) after delivery (short term disability) and an additional 6 weeks for family bonding. Your partner (if also working in california) should also get 6 weeks family bonding. All of these are paid at 60% of your salary up to some income thresh-hold.
Your supplemental STD should top off the amount you get for the 6-8 weeks after delievery, but not the 6 weeks of bonding time.

Kind of - no straight paid maternity leave, but I got paid maternity leave through short term disability coverage, which was 100% employer paid. It was 100% pay for 6 weeks post birth, and they also paid the elimination week, so full pay for 7 weeks.
My husband is eligible to take 12 weeks paternity leave and it's all paid, because he's paid for the full year, regardless of leave time.

Im a sahm for a little longer and DH saved comp time (overtime) to fund his and also used vacation/sick (only because they make them use sick first.) Does that count as paid? Eta I guess not, but he worked a lot of overtime, we planned this out and took longer than expected to ttc (10m actively), and he is taking about 17 weeks.

I am a SAHM, but DH gets 2 weeks of paid paternity leave. Very generous and SO HELPFUL.
