So, at work they are supposed to paint the office that sits right next to mine either today or Friday. I didn't even think about it until now, but should I make arrangements to sit and work elsewhere while this is being done or see if it can be done over the weekend so I don't have to sit and smell the paint fumes? I have no idea what type of paint they will be using - I know some are ok for pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks tomorrow!

I have no idea, but always better safe than sorry. Commenting so I can mark this page. We have a lot of painting to do around the house still and want to know if I should try to get it done first. And is it ok for newborns to smell the paint?

My husband works for a paint company and he absolutely assures me that it's safe for pregnant ladies to be around general paint fumes. Many years ago they used lead and all sorts of nasty chemicals in paint but the legislation changed and they're quite simply not allowed to make dangerous paints anymore.
I would avoid solvent based paint and spray paints if I were you - there's no evidence/studies to suggest there's a risk but there's nothing to say they're not a risk, either (and they make you feel funny even if you're not pregnant!) but emulsion is fine.
There's nothing wrong with asking to move if the smell makes you feel queasy... but don't panic - your baby is in no danger.
