In other words, how long am I gonna have to *white knuckle* it through the bakery/bread aisles?
ETA: Oh, and do any of you still drink diet soda?

probably last a week or so, then it got relatively easy! i'm not a huge soda drinker so no experience there--
i think the hardest part, besides breads/rice, was sugar! i'm not even a huge sugar/dessert person, but i def had cravings!

@PrincessBaby: Cupcakes = Achilles for me. But Oh My Jeebus(!) do I miss my Paiges!
@PrincessBaby: @mrsjyw: @looch: A week or two, eh? Well, in that case, I better get started!

For me it was about a week - after I started to feel really good I didn't really want it. Now, two years later, you can put a bread basket on the table and I won't even think about it.
I had already dropped diet soda before going Paleo. I crave it every once in a while, but aspartame scared me.

The physical cravings stopped after a couple weeks. The mental issues are on going. But part of that is probably because I literally CAN'T cheat because M has a wheat intolerance so I feel deprived and I know that it will be a long time before I can even have a little bit again.

About 5 days for me. My husband drinks diet soda when he's low carb, but for him it slows down weight loss a little bit.

@MsLipGloss: it is worth it:). I lost 4 lbs in 1 week and then it just started melting off. And I felt soooo much better! I have spent 95% of my life feeling like my belly is/looks bloated. I never had that feeling again after I went paleo. It's awesome. And once I got to where I wanted to be I would have cheat days every once in a while:). We are moving to SC next week, and we went to dinner for DH and his twin's bday to this really great Mexican place and since we won't be going there probably ever again, I had chips and 2 margaritas. But that was enough of a treat and that'll hold me over until we get to charleston and have a celebratory meal there at our favorite place. So I was definitely super strict at first, but it paid off QUICK, and I still live a little when I want to:). Oh and I also had wine every day even in the first weeks. I can do anything as long as I can have wine- so you'll probably lose it even faster bc you're not much of a boozer:)

Fwiw, paleo makes me feel so much better, that I actually have been reluctant to introduce grains and such to my daughter. I'm like a snob about it..."Ugh!!! Oatmeal??? I don't want her little body eating processed crap!!!"
But I do want her to be a kid and when the time comes, I want her to also get to enjoy cupcakes and normal kid stuff, so I fed her some oatmeal yesterday. At least it was organic:)

I went paleo and quit caffeine at the same time. It took me about 2 weeks to get over the "low carb flu."

My Dad went paleo in January, and he can't even have grains on the table in front of him because it is like torture I don't know if some people every "get over" the cravings.

@PrincessBaby: The thought of having wine every day in lieu of my white flour processed crap makes it seem do-able . . . I *love* to drink, but I pretty much gave it up because I thought LO was getting enough *junk* from me. Thanks for the advice and the encouragement! I will post/ check in in a few days to let you all know how I am doing, and to keep myself accountable!

I always hear a week, too! I have been meaning to go paleo but I am sort of easing into it for now with paleo and primal meals...breakfast and lunch are the easiest
My biggest concern is my coffee! I canNOT drink it black!
These are popular at my gym: http://www.amway.com/nutrition/energy-drinks (all natural, no sugar, etc...)

It was about 3-4 days for carbs (pastas, rice, breads...)
And it has been 3 weeks and the sugar craving still comes and goes. I can deny it though. They don't get to me. When theydo get to me, I'll have like a Hershey's kiss. One does the trick these days...
As far as soda goes, I've had maybe a cup and a half in 3 weeks and it was diet. Again: one of those cravings that comes and goes and it usually controllable.

@MsLipGloss: Hope it has been working out for you! You can eventually treat yourself to a Paleo treat!
@PrincessBaby: I tried this faux-oatmeal last weekend! http://healthylivinghowto.com/1/post/2012/09/vegetables-for-breakfast.html. With just enough sugar, it tasted pretty similar to me!

@chopsuey119: Okay, soooooo, I have been paleo-ish for about a week . . . . I am down 4 pounds. Not huge, but enough to keep me going! I started and stopped a few times (stooopid work functions!) and then just decided that an 85% or 90% effort was better than no effort. I just have this thing about doing things perfectly or not at all . . . but this last week has shown me that I am capable of more (mental) flexibility than that.
@cranberryapple: Oh, you best believe that a Green & Black's Organic Dark bar is in my near future.
