Teen: It's a clock, not a bomb
http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/16/us/texas-student-ahmed-muslim-clock-bomb/index.html
After reading the linked article I had the following exchange.
Me: if a HS student created a time clock out of a pencil box what would you do?
DH: does it tell time?
Me: yes
DH: put it on my desk
Me: well a kid git arrested for making one.
DH: why?
Me: police thought it looked like a bomb...the HS student's name is Ahmed Mohamad
DH: well if my kid had that name I wouldn't let him bring it to school
> eta: he wasn't shocked the teacher over reacted <
Do you think prejudice is getting in the way of good judgment?
As far as I'm aware, this kid is a U.S. Citizen. I've seen people comment that this happened because "those are the people who use bombs." So what about Timothy McVeigh? Ted Kaczynski? Or the Atlanta Olympics bomber? Or the kids at Columbine who made explosives? I could go on... I'm tired of people trying to defend their prejudice with stereotypes that don't even hold water.
