We adopted from the local animal shelter. My dog is great. Couldn't have asked for a better dog.

We did buy from a breeder in my hometown, someone who I trusted was not a puppy mill and treated the puppies well. They weren't afraid to show us where they kept them or anything, that was important to me.
We tried to adopt, but our local humane society very rarely had small dogs, and if they did they were always very old.

All my furbabies were adopted or taken in as stays!
I am a foster mom for a Chihuahua/Chihuahua mix Rescue as well.
4 cats- all short hair, two black, one tortie and one grey tabby who was born with a deformed leg.
4 dogs- One Boxer, one Aussie, one Chihuahua/pug and one Chihuahua.
Plus currently have 2 fosters. I had three until last Sunday when I placed one in a new home! : )

We bought from a reputable breeder because we wanted a specific breed and we couldn't find any rescues. He's AKC registered and we went to visit the breeders' home and all the dogs looked very well cared for and healthy. We also wanted to see the parents to get an idea of size. We love our little guy so much so I can't regret not adopting but now that we have him we are always on the breed specific rescue sites looking for a second!

We went through a breeder - my DH has always wanted a dog but I have extreme allergies and asthma so after a lot of research and testing, we figured out that I could handle an F1b doodle and that's how we ended up buying Kenzie

We adopted our first from a shelter. she was a baby. our second was purchased from a pet store, but she was already 6 months old (was returned by the owner) so I consider it adopted since we didn't opt for a baby. We have 2 cats.

My cat was adopted from the humane society.
My Newfoundland dog was purchased from a reputable breeder. It is rare to find a Newfoundland dog up for adoption where I live, and it was important to me to get this specific breed.

A friend bought our dog from a backyard breeder (NoT something I support) then gave her to us after a few months because she was too high energy for them. Our next dog, I want to adopt! I look on petfinder all the time!

Our dog is from Humane Society. We played with about 7-8 puppies that evening, unsure whether we were actually going to take one home. We played with this one at the same time as two litter mates, but the other two had no interest in us, but ours just wanted to interact and play...and if we sat, to climb in our laps. Almost a year later, we're still in love! He's a corgi/dachshund/mystery mix, and get compliments on his cuteness everywhere we go!

We adopted our baby cakes kitty...but DH bought his husky from a breeder. The husky lives with his parents because they have a huge yard that he can run around in.
I made the mistake of falling in love with a pup and tried to adopt him a couple of months ago but DH said nooo...baby on the way is already enough:)

No pets yet, but I'd like to buy a Russian Blue kitten from a breeder eventually.

@DigaPony @RescueMom10: We have a (rescue) Torti as well . . . she is grey/brown/white, with quite a personality! We call it Torti-tude!

Our first was adopted from the local Humane Society, and our second was a "failed foster" from a local rescue group, meaning that we signed up to foster dogs until they were adopted by other families, but DH got too attached and we kept the first dog we ever fostered
We'll probably always have dogs, and I can't imagine we'd get them from anywhere but a rescue organization (there are a few in our area that I think are quite good about vetting dogs with other dogs and with kids- as much as is possible- so I like getting a dog that's been fostered with other dogs and kids before). Unless some special circumstance comes up (like we have a kid who needs a non-shedding dog), in which case we'd look into a breeder if there were no rescue dogs meeting our specifications available.

@DigAPony: Awww...ours is a torti, too! She looks a lot like yours, but she has more orange. They're so pretty!

@Rescuemom10: @MsLipGloss: @eiko2010: Yay! We think she is gorgeous! When we adopted her (Luna) they "warned" us that she would become a little queen and would run the house, which she certainly does.
