Left my iPad under the pillow at the hotel we started at last night.
I called as soon as I realized it was missing. The front desk staff said that housekeeping locks up any valuable found in the rooms and that we can speak to them tomorrow morning.
Have you ever left something in a hotel room and gotten it back? What are the chances I see my pad again?

Have you tried using 'Find My iPad'? I think it has to be on for the feature to work, but its worth a try...

I once left a pillow at an expensive hotel. The front desk said that housekeeping didn't find anything. It was obviously not a hotel pillow, since it was in a coloured pillow case and much longer than the hotel's pillows. It was also a fancy-schmancy super comfy pillow that was (at the time) the only thing I could sleep on with my injured shoulder. There would have only been one place it could have been - on the bed. It's not like I took it to the bar or the pool and left it there.

If you have an iCloud account and the setting turned on, definitely use the find my iPad tool.
But yeah, I think the worst about humans. Hope you get it back!

We lost a diamond necklace - a family heirloom - at the inn we stayed at during our wedding last weekend. We only realized it after we'd left. When we called the inn, the staff organized a search party and one of the housekeepers actually found it outside a day later and returned it. So it DOES happen. Fingers crossed for you!

I have icloud and it's coming up as offline right now, which is either a good thing because its just sitting in a safe at the hotel or a bad thing because some evil doer is doing evil things with it.

Back in the day I left my iPod on the subway and someone actually returned it. If you stayed at a nice(ish) hotel, I bet they will return it.

It wasn't at a hotel but just a few weeks ago I dropped my wallet in a parking lot and I went back to the store I was at and someone actually returned it. Expensive wallet, all my important cards, ID etc...so yes, there are good people!

I hope you get it back! I found a lady's iphone in the parking lot yesterday and turned it in. So good people do exist (even if it's me, lol)

I found a wallet once and was able to return it. It was super tricky because they had an out of state ID. I found an appointment card for eyeglasses To be picked up and was able to go to the place and have them contact the owner.
I hope you get it back. Sending positive vibes.

@Reese: nice-ish hotel or not.....the housekeeping are all at or below the poverty line. They might think, "if I sold this, I could pay my entire rent"...

I work at a hotel and we return stuff like this all the time. The answer they gave you when you called is exaclty waht we do also.

I left my entire purse, with cell phone and Kindle, in the bathroom at an outlet mall last month. Someone turned it into the lost and found. There's hope!

We accidentally left an entire closet of clothes (my husbands dress clothes) in Thailand. I have no idea how we did this -- we are usually careful about carefully packing everything! We even left the suitcase bag, too.

i left my phone in a hotel in canada once, they were so nice & shipped it back to the US... and then my mailman lost it. i was a giant pain in the postmasters ass (i was planning my wedding at the time and all the pics i needed were on there) until they found it in a bin he'd left somewhere and got it to me. it was a little scary, but i got it back!

I had my phone stolen (with every picture from my pregnancy, delivery, and first 16 months with LO on it) last week so I have no faith in humanity right now. None.

@TurtleDoves: I think it's a bit offensive to assume that those with lower incomes would steal it =/ I struggled as a single woman in a minimum income job before moving in with my DH, and I never would have done such a thing.
I bet you get it back, OP. Update us once you talk to them!

@wonderstruck: I don't think she was implying that because they were lower income they WOULD steal it, just that there would be more temptation. That's how I took it anyway.

@wonderstruck: No, I in no way meant that But, either way, I am clearing up my statement: I did not say they WOULD or "assume" they would. I meant, because housekeeping is so underpaid, and this is a fact, they may see something and think of it in a more tempting way. What may be a luxurious toy in someone's world, may be 1 month's rent and groceries in another person's world. Thus, the added temptation would be there. I did not say it was definite or that I bet anything on it. I didn't assume anything....
I was commenting on someone else saying "higher end hotel.." and I was making it clear that even 5-star hotels, still hire underpaid and overworked personnel.

@oliviaoblivia: Oh no I hope you get it back! Sadly, I had my digital camera stolen at my own WEDDING! I HOPE it was venue staff and not our guests. Either way there were pictures of us on it, it was so obvious who it belonged to. I hope the people at your hotel are nicer.

I hope you get it back! We left a pair of glasses on a flight and it was never found I don't know what someone would do with a pair of prescription glasses!

@travelgirl1: that's nuts about your camera! at my wedding, a guest of mine had his digital camera stolen and he had been taking pics at our wedding with it.

@oliviaoblivia: i had an mp3 player that i left in a hotel once. i called the next day when i was already back home and they had it in their lost and found. i ended up travelling in the same area a couple of weeks and they no longer had it and claimed to have no memory of it ever being there....so i guess if there was hope in my case, but it didn't last, lol. i hope you get it back!!! i think you will.

I think in a hotel they will turn it in because of the risk of getting caught and losing their job. I've dropped my phone at the grocery store and someone stole it, but thanks to Find my iPhone we tracked it down and the cops retrieved it for me. Good luck - I think you'll get it back.

Oh no!!! I really hope you get it back....there are definitely good people in the world and I have hope you'll get it back. Here's a positive story for you.
When DH and I were in China, he put his backpack down in Tiananmen Square to take a picture, hopped back on his bicycle, and rode away without picking up his pack (I was not with him - we didn't meet until that evening). His backpack had his Australian passport, iPod, wallet, and all of his money (about $500 AUD). He noticed he didn't have it about 20 minutes later, rode back frantically, but the backpack was gone, obviously.
He spent all day at the police station filing paperwork as he no longer had a passport, visa, any identification, and no money, credit cards etc. Upon getting back to our hotel, our tiny little backpackers hotel down an obscure lane way in the middle of nowhere, he discovered someone had returned his backpack! They'd gone through it, found his hotel key, figured out where the hotel was, made the trek over, and turned it in with all contents inside, minus about $50, which they probably figured they earned as a reward (damn right they did!). An Aussie passport on the black market in China would have sold for loads, not to mention the rest of the cash, credit cards, iPod etc, but that was all still in the bag in plain sight.
So all of that just to say that there are good people in the world and I have my fingers crossed you receive happy news tomorrow!!!

I've had stuff as lame as a sweater, glasses and a phone charger not be returned when I left them in a hotel room and called back the same day. Hoping your iPad is luckier!!

DH left a GPS device in a cab in Mongolia. The cab driver brought it back to the hotel, they emailed DH, DH OK'ed UPS charges and the GPS got home before he did! There are good people!
