Did you eat your placenta? In any form (pill, smoothie, fork/knife)

I'm not due until February but already bought a placenta encapsulation package.

@MamaBehr: No, I'm using a freestanding birth center. I *think* my local women's hospital will allow you to take your placenta with you, though.

@ms.line: I think my hospital would let me, but I'm pretty sure there's a big hullabaloo you have to go through in order to get your own placenta. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do! The baby will be here in December, so I have some time.

I did not and I may have agreed to donate it too. I can't even remember!

@MamaBehr: Are you using a doula? Maybe she could help you with the red tape.

Uhm... No.
Also, after birth I really did eat a Hamburger! It was brought to me by the nurses and was the best tasting food EVER.

@Mrs Hedgehog: I really had a hamburger after birth too! Mine was cold and disgusting though.

We had paid for encapsulation through the doula, but we weren't able to do it. They sent the placenta to pathology to see if there were any indicators of why I went into preterm labor. (We got a refund.) Though it came back totally normal so it's a bit frustrating that I missed out for nothing.

@Mrs. Coral: In reality mine probably was too. But I was soooo hungry and all I wanted was food in my face.

I did it, but I think it was a waste of money. The lady that did it was very unprofessional.

@blackbird: That's what my husband thinks too! He keeps going, " we are not wasting money on that!" hahahaaha

My cousin offered to encapsulate mine for me....she did it to hers using only her kitchen blender and some supplies she ordered online..
.....nope.

No, but I considered it because it's supposed to help prevent postpartum depression and I had a history of depression. I decided there wasn't enough evidence of any benefit to make it worthwhile.

Yes, my doula took it and did encapsulation. There was no red tape at the hospital. She just put it in a ziplock bag and then in her cooler. It shouldn't be a problem for you to want to keep it/send it with your doula.

I was not interested, no. They asked if I wanted to see it and I said no, but now I'm curious so I'll probably at least look at it this time if I can.

I was leaning towards doing it but when discussing with my OB she said the New York Times just had an article about a new study that had been done that showed no proof the placenta does anything when ingested. Here's the link if interested:

I think we won't be doing it.

@blackbird: LOL!
I didn't, but I really wanted to see what it looked like

No I was not interested at all: the idea of eating my own body part really grosses me out.

Yes, twice! Great experience and no issues with bringing it home, even after my c-section.

Nope! Mine was sent off for investigation, but even if it wasn't, I wouldn't.

No, I considered it for a moment after delivering. Then I saw my placenta slathered in meconium and that took care of that fleeting thought.

Nope, no desire, the thought kind of makes me nauseous, I have a weak stomach.

No, but I did want to see it. It was pretty cool. Then I ate a cheeseburger and it was the best food ever.

@MamaBehr: We have not decided yet but it's on my list to ask my OB about! I don't think taking it in pill form is weird or gross at all. I think I may be in the minority on that ....
