I just started looking at play gyms/play mats and bouncy seats for LO, and I'm overwhelmed by how many there are! There are about 10 million choices. Do you have any recommendations for either?

Pretty much any activity gym was heaven for my LO. It was the best used piece of baby gear we had. I'm glad we borrowed a bouncy seat, because LO only tolerated it. She absolutely hated it if the toy bar was attached.

We love the Baby Bjorn bouncer. Luckily we got it used since they are $$

We have the Fisher-Price Discover and Grow Kick Piano and she absolutely loved it!

We had this bouncer, and LO loved it! It vibrates -- I'd invest in some good quality rechargeable batteries like Eneloop because it does eat batteries like crazy depending how long you leave it on for:

Yes, there are tons of fancier things out there, but this was perfectly good for us.
We had the ever popular Fisher Price Rainforest Deluxe activity gym, which LO also loved:

I love our Infantino play gym. I love Infantino in general. It's affordable and cute.

We have the Fisher Price Bouncer. My brother and SIL had these, so I went with what they used on their littles. The batteries recently conked out after months and months of use. Also, this is the bouncy chair where we put LO after his 2 month shots when moving his legs hurt the poor little dude.

I would suggest you go with the less expensive options - they really don't differ enough to justify paying for the more expensive ones.

@rawrasaur: That was my big feeling with play gyms as well. Skip Hop is seriously cute, but I couldn't justify putting it on my registry and asking for friends or relatives to pay that much for one.

We have the Skip Hop Treetop Friends Activity Gym and the Fisher Price Rainforest Bouncer. Both are total lifesavers and LO is a huge fan.
I will say the gym was a hand me down and we got the bouncer for $20, barely used, off Craigslist.

Our next activity gym will be the wooden Ikea gym b/c I REALLY want to move to wooden toys being the majority of our toys!

For our bouncer we used one my SIL gave us she used for her daughter.... it was really only used a couple times & when P was sick b/c she preferred to sleep cozy in it over her rnp or bed.

Same gyn @cascademom: has. I really like it. It's easy to fold up and put away when not in use. We also have the snug bunny bouncer and the bijorn baby sitter balance. Have loved having both.
