"The reason they are whining at you at the dining room table during our lovely Thanksgiving dinner is because you feed them." Do your parents feed your dogs human food even after you tell them at EVERY MEAL that the dogs aren't allowed human food? Pisses me off so bad.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! We don't have that particular problem, because our pup has a really sensitive tummy. Anything other than his dog food gives him horrible gas & sometimes diarrhea. Friends & family have learned its best to leave him be (from incidents where he's stolen unattended food & they've smelt the consequences!)

I'm sorry, I know your frustrated but thus had me laughing so hard bc I'm the one who spoils the crap out of our dog by feeding her off of my plate and my parents are always the ones yelling at me not to, haha!

That's annoying! Fortunately our parents respect our wishes and don't feed our dogs human food.

They wouldn't feed my dog from the plate, but they do feed their own, who is constantly looking for food at the table and whining if you ignore her. My dad "doesn't notice" when she licks the crumbs from the table while we are still eating! It's really gross. But at least they aren't feeding my dog and teaching him his own bad habits.
ETA: Oh- my dog does get human food sometimes, just not while we are sitting at the table and eating. I stand up and make him do a trick for it after dinner. So much better, right?

Totally. Everyone sneaks her snacks, and then we pay for it later. We just got home last night and on our morning walk today . . . well, let's just say 4 days of people food snacks make her tummy salty and it wasn't pretty. I'm PRAYING there are no "presents" in my house when I get home. Sigh.

Yep. I never used to give my dog human food. "Gave" him to my sister and they feed him human food.

Ugggghh. Every time we go to the ILs our dog sits and whines at my MIL. He never ever does this at our house!!! It started after he stayed with them for a few days. She must have been giving him something!!! I find it very annoying.

Haven't had any personal experience with this, but I have a friend whose mom does this. Friend tells mom every time they're together not to give her dogs table food. Her mom says "just because you don't feed them table food doesn't mean I can't". WTF? Yes, actually it does. They are not YOUR dogs!
She doesn't have kids, yet. I predict lots of grandma problems in her future!

We're bad and spoil our dog now. We never gave her any scraps after adopting her but after moving in with family for a brief period they spoiled her rotten whether we liked it or not. I would complain, but for the past few years we haven't done anything to change it and keep spoiling her. Totally backwards thinking, but I feel bad not giving handouts now. That said, I would never give someone else's food unless I was told I could.

YES! My dad is CONSTANTLY feeding our dog table food when he comes over and I get so upset, especially now that the vet has told us she's a tad overweight. This does not bode well for him babysitting LO...
