I first used Bumgenius and liked it. I then switched to Rockin Green and have't liked it as much as the Bumgenius, but it's been fine. We're out of the Rockin Green, though, and I'd like to try to find something I don't need to order online. So I'll be following this!

Ecos free and clear works great for us!

@Cole: I hate it when they push certain things! If Allen's is the best for the water in your area, that's one thing, but to only push it because it's local is annoying. There is a local lady who makes cloth detergent, but they don't push you to buy it if you don't want to at my store. I have her diaper stripper, but I want detergent that I can find at the grocery store.

We tried a bunch of different kinds, and now use (and like) tide powder.

@Ash: @Zbug: @Anya: @blackbird: Not to thread-jack, but can anyone tell me--is it okay to use Tide pods, as long as they dissolve completely?

I don't cloth diaper, yet, but do have things I need to wash that are similar to cloth diapers. I use Nellie's.

We've used:
Seventh Generation Liquid (worked well, but only gets three stars)
Ecos Liquid (gets four stars, but I didn't think it worked as well and my diapers ended up kinda stinky)
Planet Powder (this is what we're using now, it gets five stars and it seems to be working well with no stink issues)

@Cole: yes! I started using it and it's amazing! My diapers are actually clean!!!

@FliegepilzHut: I read somewhere that tide pods are not good for cloth diapers. It may have just been cost effective wise. Plus I promised myself to NEVER buy them because I have had several patients at the hospital who bit one thinking it was candy and they had severe damage to their throats, one requiring a long term breathing tube!

@junebugsmama: I will do some reading... Eeek! Yet another reason to keep household chemicals secure and out of the reach of children!

Tide powder!

We usually use Ecos because it's easy to find. I wasn't that happy with it but I wasn't using enough. Once I started to use more they definitely were cleaner and didn't stink. I think a lot of cloth diaper detergents are hard to find in stores. We have also tried Bum Genius because we got the samples with our diapers and I ordered some but it's a pain having to get it online. I also find that drying them outside makes a big difference with stains and stink.

Tide Powder. Used to use Bumgenius but things are way cleaner with Tide and I wish I switched sooner, although I hate the smell. I hate scented detergent but I'm afraid the F&C Tide won't work as well.

@lady baltimore: You're supposed to use 2x the amount I think, because it's weaker - and I know they Rec hot wash for any plant based detergents. Check out the detergent list on the fluff love university link above - it's awesome!

Country Save has been great for our Freetimes. Cheap, eco friendly and lasts forever. Our diapers are super clean. Though, we are still just on breastmilk poop, so things will get more intense in a few months when solid foods are in the picture.
