Ugh found out yesterday that I have pneumonia. Not sure if I caught it at work or what but I was with family this weekend (reunion) and now I feel so guilty. I was with a bunch of babies and prego women. But I wasn't feeling sick then. Anyways anyone ever had pneumonia? How long did it take you to start feeling better? Feeling pretty yuck and feverish tonight.

I had "walking pneumonia" when I was in college. Mine didn't present traditionally with a fever, cough, etc. Mine was chest pain, shortness of breath, dizzines, etc. I was convinced I was having a heart attack.
I think it took about a week before I really felt normal again.

Oh:( I'm sorry you're sick! I had it last year & it took 10 days before I could walk up the stairs without needing to sit down because I was seeing stars. It was pretty yucky. Hope you recover faster than I did!
I could very well be wrong, but my understanding is that pneumonia is an infection from the fluid festering in your lungs from a cold or flu, like an ear infection. So while you can spread germs that caused the initial illness that led to pneumonia, I didn't think you could spread pneumonia itself, just as you can't spread an ear infection. So I would try not to stress out too much about infecting other people because the illness that led to you developing pneumonia is probably long past being contagious. Hope you feel better soon!

ps - I agree with Mrs Bird, you can't catch pneumonia from someone because pneumonia is just the term for inflammation of the lung which is usually caused by an infection such as a chest infection. That said, you absolutely must rest or you will deteriorate - so gets yourself to bed right now missus, take antibiotics, drink plenty of water and take care! xx

@anonysquire: My understanding is that you can definitely catch pneumonia! It's fairly rare though - much more common is to pass along the underlying disease, as people have noted.
