I'm curious to see what kind of carries everyone has and how you like to use it.

I have the Ergo and LOVE carrying M in it. It's so cozy and comfortable. I'll have to dig up a picture to post. We've started doing the hip and backpack carries and she giggles when she's being put on my back.

We have a Beco Gemini that I love! It's so comfortable and doesn't feel like I'm hauling around a 20lb baby! Here is a picture of me wearing him frontwards, the only way I know how to do it. But you can also wear on the side and back! I need to figure this out!

@mrsaudi: Is it awkward to walk with him? I have never seen anyone IRL baby wearing, so it just seems like he would hit your legs?

I don't have one of me but here's a couple of DH with the Infantino (I just ordered an Ergo this morning!) This was before we realized we weren't supposed to carry him facing out in it.

Note, the above sources are non-scientific...I imagine once they get to be a certain age it doesn't matter much, and we definitely did for about 5 months.

Well, I have a thousand pictures of this.
This is about a week after my daughter was born - the day after we came home from the NICU. I've still got my big cute pregnancy nose. I adored that moby wrap.
This is me a month or two later, still doing a newborn carry in the moby. I switched to the baby carry soon after.
Here is my husband doing an outward facing baby carry - it wasn't very secure, and we didn't much like it. Never did it much.
Here is me in the snow, freezing my ass off, with the ergo. I didn't use that for long, because she got too heavy for me. I always front carried in that one, never got the hang of the back carry.
And here is the only babywearing we still do. Kind of hard to see the kid, but she's 17 months now, about 20 pounds. My husband loves this frame carrier. We hike and walk around with it a lot. It's all too heavy for me. She absolutely adores it, she'll go to the closet where the carrier lives and try to climb in it.

Here's one of her in the Beco Butterfly II.. We figured out the back carry really quickly when LO hit the separation anxiety stage.
We also have a SBP ring sling, Babyhawk, and an Ergo.

@FutureMrsMcK: in ours you can fold the top down when they face front. Does yours have a bib on the inside? I don't have any pics but we might have the same one. My LO hated facing in and would only face out.

Both LO and I prefer a sling to other holders. We have a hot sling, peanut shell and Seven. We usually do a hip carry, or front (especially when she gets sleepy). This is the Seven sling:

The first is the beco Gemini in a back carry. So proud that I can so this by myself now. The second is him after he insisted on using his friends Ergo for baby dolls.

@sarac: What's the difference between a newborn and a baby hold? I didn't realize there were different ways of wearing it, the lady at the store I went to only showed me one!

@yoursilverlining: How do you "do" that carry and she not fall out the bottom?
I was doing the "sitting cross legged frontward" carry as per the instruction pics here. Pardon her pouty-crying face, she had just finished having a meltdown and I was trying evvvvverything to chill her out, somehow....this worked, lol.
We also have the Beco Gemini....which we use the most, but pics of it would be pretty redundant to above! We love the outward facing position and use it the most! Zumba and baby class is so much fun with it! Her legs get in the way a bit, but I'm careful and she loves it!

@sslm: There are a TON of ways to wear a moby! You can even improvise a very safe and secure back hold, just google it.
Here is the hug hold, what I called the 'baby' hold. It's good for a few months on, when your baby can hold her head up really well:

And here is the newborn hold, for the very floppy snugly newborn phase:

I had trouble learning from pictures - I would absolutely suggest that anyone eager to learn about babywearing get instruction from a friend, take a class, go to a shop and ask for help. The ways you fold a soft wrap are complex at first, and can be hard to learn just from a picture or video. But you master them quickly, and babywearing is awesome!

Regardless of "scientific" studies, the ergo carrier is simply not designed for a front-facing carry. I'm amazed you were able to read the instructions and missed that part- or maybe I'm just amazed that you were able to get that thing on with baby in it without reading the instructions! I had to watch you tube videos to use mine, haha!

@FutureMrsMcK: We have this same one I think and it has a little bib thing that you can attach, and I always carry LO facing out...I didn't know you weren't supposed to? Or maybe ours are a little different

@Beebug: 7 months I think? It was a while before I felt comfortable trying to put her on my back.
@Pink Champagne: No one is talking about forward facing in the Ergo...

Not quite baby-wearing, but more of a test-drive that I had with the Baby Bjorn.

Found a beco gemini pic....snoozin', lol. We were actually taking a pic with "a celebrity" here at an airport (NHL player on my fave team!) and she slept through it, lol.

@Weagle: Awesome! Hopefully in the Spring we'll try and it will be great while out for walks/hikes in the nicer weather.

@Beebug: 20 months when he could follow directions and hold on. I put him on my back like piggy back and hold his hands. Then pull up one strap, then the next, settle him in and attach the neck strap.
When I take him off, I do one strap at a time and hold his hands.

@highwire: which one do you like better? You look fab by the way!

@Beebug: small sling-world!! haha, nice sling, too!
There are some good videos on YouTube, but basically you fold the sling in half (skinny-wise, fold it into itself), and then your LO goes in and has a little pouch to sit in. Your LO's bum goes against one edge of the sling, and then the rest of the fabric you pull up over their back. and adjust over your shoulder. It's actually *really secure* feeling, they basically end up with a little seat of fabric, and are tucked in close against you. Very comfortable for mama too.
The videos are probably easier than my explanation!

Our moby...and we just got an ergo for dh~ (and me for outside yhe house)
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@anonysquire: Moby is more secure/tight, ktan is quick and easy for jaunts around the house when LO is fussy and doesnt want to wait for you to get the moby all wrapped around you

@MrsTiz: finally. Not our best shot ever but I had to get dinner made and she wanted to be held. Insert: Ergo.
