Did you have PPD? If so, what do you think brought it on? I wonder if it can come on because you no longer feel the baby anymore - even though logically you know you have the baby in your arms.

My close friend had it and I think it was because she didn't feel any kind of bond to her son at first. She went through counseling and got better!

I had/have PPD. I will be posting my experience on my blog on Monday, actually. I have a history of depression but my PPD was brought on because I had such high expectations for myself (I thought mommyhood would come naturally for me and when it didn't, I felt like a bad mother). I also equated LO's crying with my being a bad mother for not being able to soothe her. SIGH.

I didn't have it, but I feel like hormones probably have a lot to do with it.

It's hormones. Granted hormones can do a lot of things and make you feel like you don't have the baby but it's hormones. And it can be scary.

I didn't have it but my husband did. It wasn't pretty at first but he's finally starting to come around these last few months/weeks.

My SIL had post natal depression, never got it treated and now that the baby is four (!) she's still not particularly rational and it's got worse, I'd even say it's turned into a full blown mental illness similar to bi-polar or manic depression.
As ar as I understand PND is more manageable when treated early (by either counselling or medication) and it's not something I'd wish on anybody!
