DD started peeing on the potty a bit this summer (after she turned two) "just for fun" before her nap and at bedtime. I waited until around thanksgiving to start full blown potty training (we were in the midst of an international move and adjusting to a new baby this summer/fall) and things went pretty well - she was excited about it, would use the potty for pee without reminders, and would poop on the potty most of the time with coaching. Her accidents were tiny - like she'd catch herself and stop, and usually only happened when we were out. She was wearing underwear except for naps, bedtime, and a very long car trip (6hrs), and asking to go potty when she needed to but couldn't (ie she was in the stroller).
However...starting around Christmas she started wetting her pants at home and out...and waiting for her naptime diaper to poop. I've taken away the underwear to have her go bare bottomed around the house, and unless constantly forced to take a potty break (and sometimes even when I do make her take one), she's peeing on the floor. Sometimes she acts like she didn't notice, most often she tells me like 10 minutes later, will point out where she did it and say "I pee peed by x. Not in the potty!" Rather gleefully. She is mostly keeping undies dry when we go out, but had two massive accidents while out this week - one she acted like she didn't notice, one she told me about.
It feels like a power struggle and I've got no idea what to do...go back to diapers and retrain in another month or so? Just press on and ignore it? Try a new tactic like a reward method, or bring more regimented? I'm stumped. Is prefer not to use food rewards - I dabbled in that briefly and she would just pee a teeny bit at once over and over to get more rewards. She's 2.5 so no huge rush, but it's clear she has the bladder control to hold it when she wants to...so it seems silly to have her back in diapers.
I'd welcome any and all advice from those who have been through this! Thanks in advance!
