Potty ring! We chose it because we didn't want the transition to the regular potty or a public potty to be too hard.

We are at the very beginning of potty training and have been trying a ring for the same reason Bao mentioned. K is terrified of it. She loves her seat though.

We haven't really started potty training yet, but I bought a potty ring this week. My plan is to try that first and to try to skip the potty. I don't feel like cleaning it out, plus I'm hoping that the potty ring will make it easier to transition her to a regular toilet seat later on and that it will make it easier when we are away from the house. LO sat on it for the first time yesterday and didn't seem scared- she did keep trying to stick her foot in the toilet though.

We have both. We started with the a basic potty when Miss A started showing an interest at 16 months, it's also really handy if I'm using the toilet because she can manage it without my help. We have an insert to go on the toilet but it's quite wobbly and LO can't get up there on her own. It's probably 50/50 as to whether she's uses the potty or the toilet.

We have both: a seat for our house and a ring/travel seat for on the go. I like that the little seat encourages her to go on her own without needing my help. She's had no issues using the travel seat or a regular potty out and about.

We did both! I think in the beginning stages, the stand alone seat is better because you can put it in a central place where its easy for them to get to. It also gives them a visual of the "fruits of their labor" since they can actually see their pee/poo in the seat. I think it's also a little less scary for them.

Currently we have a seat, because we have a shorty and this is easy for him to sit on and off without needing help.
However, I totally like the thought behind making the real toilet less scary/transitioning with a ring.
