We potty trained our daughter on her schedule. So she'd go alot on the potty and then get bored and stop. So if it was me I'd just let it go for now. Our kid is strong willed and pushing her just made things worse.
2 is still really young too. I would think especially with language delay he might just not be ready yet. Good luck!

I agree with wait it out. It’s great you’ve had some successes though and I bet it will be easy once he decides he’s ready!

@cyoung: my DH’s grandmother has told me many a time how all her kids were trained by 18 months . But she also said old fashioned cloth diapers played a big part. I agree 2 is very young and I think continuing to offer but not getting upset about it either way is the right move.

@cyoung: 2 seems young. My oldest potty trained at 2.5, but HE initiated it and we just followed his lead. My youngest semi-potty trained resistantly at 3, because I also felt pressure to do it. Bribes helped, but they didn't completely do the job. It wasn't until 3.5 when he was fully potty trained and he was motivated to do it on his own.

If your son doesn't seem interested, I wouldn't push at this age.

my first was potty trained by 16 months. We would take him at max every 30 minutes just to try, we didn't use pull ups or the like except for bedtime, I feel it helped when he seen and felt that he had an accident, he also loved Elmo and they have a potty training DVD that comes with a reward chart for every successful bathroom break. It had stars and I just bought the stickers to fill it in. We hung it on the bathroom door right in front of the potty and he loved earning his stars and seeing his success and accomplishments,.
