My almost 3 year old is one month into potty training and she starts preschool next week. I am so worried about her being able to wipe herself properly. Can your little girls wipe front to back on their own? What do you have them do? I'm really worried about recurring UTIs.

We've taught her to wipe back to front and mostly just let her wipe herself. I do still help with poop though
She generally doesn't poop at school but she does go to a private preschool that has 2s so they've made sure things are clean on the rare occasions. We've not had an issue -
@agold: so I have boys but from what I've seen at their 3's program is that the teachers are there to help if needed. They keep a closer eye on the newly potty trained ones and help out when needed. Hopefully your preschool is the same! They don't have individual stalls until they hit the 4's program so it makes it a bit easier to see who needs help.

I do all the wiping at home but it only took a brief convo with my daughter around 2.5 to get the direction right (school let's them wipe for pee). She is a little red sometimes from not getting all the pee off ....but nothing awful.
I thought this convo was way above her level at that age....but she surprised me. Try not over thinking it!

@agold: With my DD, we began training her to wipe (urine only) at 3 (* she is now 11). She began by relieving herself on the potty, grabbing 5 to 7 squares of TP (or a flushable wipe), spreading her legs (while seated) and "letting the TP 'dry' her wet bits" by wiping front-to-back. She learned fairly quickly with minimal issue, although she wasn't always perfect with it at school because she wanted to get back to playing or lessons. My DS is another story although. He wants to wipe EVERYTHING. He dabs his dangle after he voids and fights me for the TP after a BM ... He isn't "amazing" at wiping after a BM so I follow up wipe. He is an emergent potty trainer as he has been 95% trained about 9 times (never for night, unfortunately), but regresses after we have company for an extended period OR if we go on a trip for a couple days. Both of my children are a bit impulsive and HAVE to get back to activities (or playing with others) immediately so, oftentimes wiping is less than satisfactory. 🤦♀️

I have a 4.5, almost 5 year old. She potty trained at 3.5 and I def remember helping her wipe for a while. Now, I tell her how to wipe, I see her do it most of the time, not perfectly but we've never had UTI issues.
