When you have a stash in the freezer!
We just got our first power outage since L was born. I'm trying not to stress since the power company says it should be back on by 11.

Yikes! Just keep that freezer shut...if it lasts any longer get it on some ice.

Oh no hope you get power soon!! Is there a store near? maybe you could get some ice block as backup just for your peace of mind.

I was totally paranoid about this too and started a thread to get tips.

Yikes! I was so worried during a hurricane and a blizzard last year but we never lost power. Hope it's back on soon!

Oh man that sucks, I hope it comes back on ASAP! Don't open your freezer!
I'm guessing that whatever was over you is squarely over us right now (lightning + thunder <2 seconds apart!) Hoping our power stays on!

@FutureMrsMcK: it was insane last night.
And for the record, met Ed is a big fat liar.
Power finally came back on around 530. I was worried I'd have to send formula to day care if I didn't have enough BM in the fridge freezer (I'd risk opening that but not the chest freezer!)

@dagret: this is my worst nightmare!!! Aack! We had pretty bad storms last night and the power flickered. I need to be more prepared for this, maybe buy a cooler? We have had power outages in this apartment at least six times in the last two years. Once for over twelve hours!!

During Hurricane Sandy, one neighbor (who I had never met) randomly kept power. Picture me climbing over trees with a cooler of frozen b'milk and knocking on their door - "Hi, you don't know me, but do you have room in your freezer for 100 oz of my breast milk?" So awkward!!! We were out of our house for 10 days and they kept it the whole time. We all have a good laugh about it now!

@dagret: They all lie...just to get you off the phone. I hope everything turned out ok!

@Dandelion: ha, it was a recording, but definitely agree! @SeptMomma12: The neighbors behind us are on a different grid - this past winter they lost power for 4 days, while we maintained power. I offered them our fridge/freezer/shower/spare room (they're our friend's parents) but they got a generator so they declined. That's awesome that your neighbors did that for you!
We keep *talking* about buying a generator but need to pull the trigger.

I showed up at daycare when they reopened after Sandy with my entire freezer stash, since I knew they had power and we were still without.

@SeptMomma12: I totally pictured you climbing over trees with bags of frozen milk in your arms! haha! that's awesome.
The first time we lost power was in the Nemo blizzard so I knew I could keep it outside in the snow if needed, but I was FREAKED OUT!!! I had almost 500oz in the chest freezer!!! Thank God the power came back on in 24 hours. I still didn't open it, but the things frozen in our fridge freezer were still rock solid so I assumed the chest freezer was ok.
I didn't have a battery adapter for my pump so I had to travel through 3 steps of the blizzard (and knee-high snow!) to pump in the car!!!
