@FliegepilzHut: As far as I know, they didn't really see anything new when they were in there. They only really operated on his aorta, but the surgeon did say that Charlie's PDA was huge, like the size of his thumb huge. I just can't imagine what that looked like!
Charlie had a mostly quiet night and day today. The doctors generally seem really pleased with how he is doing. He is having some trouble with staying warm, some arrhythmia, and not coordinating his breaths with the vent at times, but otherwise looks great. They are working to wean his vent, took out 2 of his 5 lines, stopped all blood pressure meds, and have kept him unparalyzed since he came back from surgery.

@jhd: thanks for checking in! I have been meaning to update here, just haven't taken the time to do so. Charlie is doing really well overall. Still intubated, but he passed his last two pressure support trials, so we are getting very close to getting that tube out. He only has one IV med left, which they will start weaning upon extubation, and is doing amazingly well weaning off his pain/sedation meds. The only thing that is still a big question mark is how his kidneys are doing as he has barely had any pee out since his surgery, but he has also been on a fairly aggressive dialysis regimen. We were finally cleared to hold him a little everyday if we want and he has been awake and gaining strength everyday, so that has been great. We even saw his legs move for the first time in 6.5 weeks today! I have no idea how much longer we will be in the hospital, but I can actually see us going home sooner than later now. Definitely looking forward to that!
