Are prenatal massages worth it? I've never received a prenatal massage so I have no idea how you even get one. Do you lie on your side while they massage the other side? It doesn't seem like it would be as comfortable and relaxing as a regular massage so I don't know if it's worth even getting one?

i never got one but heard that they were TOTALLY worth it. I'll probably get some when we have #2!

I've had 2 already and go for my third next Tuesday. In my particular case I lay on my side because she doesn't have a pregnancy table. It's still so, so worth it. She gets the knots out and helps with my lower back pain. We use a lot of pillows to wedge under me so I can be super comfortable.

I had two... one lady did a great job and the other one wasn't worth the money. I think it depends on the person and their skill level. But the first one really helped ease my back pain... for a little bit.

Totally worth it. I also went to a spa place where you had your feet and lower legs in warm water with oils and they massaged your neck/head and shoulders for like 30 minutes, then took your feet out of the water and massaged your feet and lower legs for 30 minutes with oils. Worth every penny!!

I got one and it was totally worth it! At the spa I went to they had a pregnancy massage table. Basically there was a gel form in the middle of the table for your bump. The table was warm. I was able to lay on my stomach - bliss!
It was just so nice to take an hour and RELAX. She really helped relax everything.I want to get another one but I don't know if I'll have the $$$.

@regberadaisy: You can lay on your belly? Sweet! I always just imagined it would be a side massage. Was it comfortable laying on your belly? I'll have to ask if the spa has a gel table thing for pregnancy massages!

The whole table including the gel form was warm. My bump is pretty small so there was plenty of room still for me. But I'd imagine the forms are made big enough to fit all sized bumps!
Honestly don't know if I would be as enthusiastic to go again if I was laying on my side.
I really need to call my insurance to see if I can use my FSA with a note from my doctor.... -
I got them a lot because of migraines. Loved them, but some massage therapists were better than others. My favorite position was on my side surrounded by pillows. I would have them under my leg, and I would hug one. So comfy! And its heaven on your back and feet.

My MIL got me one recently and it was amazing. Just being able to lie on my tummy was pretty nearly worth it on its own.
They gave the option to lie on my side but my bump isn't overly enormous so I was really comfortable on their pregnancy table.It was actually kind of neat feeling so relaxed and quiet and being able to focus so much on the baby moving around.

I had one, it was pretty good, but I am not sure I am going to do another. I do have coverage through my insurance plan.

I am excited to read this because although I haven't gotten one, I am getting my first one next week at almost 36 weeks! It is covered by my insurance so I only have a $10 copay. The place where I am getting it done has a special table with a whole (or form, maybe?) in the middle so you can lay on your tum. YAY!

Loved them! The practitioners have special wedges and pillows with holes for the belly, so you really can get comfortable.

One of the best parts is being able to lie tummy down, so try to go to a place with a pregnancy table. As for the actual massage, I think it depends on the practitioner. I went to Destinantion Maternity's Edamame Spa which is specialized for prenatal mamas, but the lady I had just wasn't great at getting the knots out even though I told her I was fine if she would use more pressure. Then I went to a no frills prenatal place and got the best massage ever because the lady wasn't scared to use a lot of pressure, which is what I needed. She seemed more experienced... I'd suggest going to yelp or a similar site for reviews before going!

I had a few and they were all great! I had the best one during our baby moon in Costa Rica. It was sad that I could not get another one from there during my later stages of pregnancy. I still think about that massage......mmmmmm
