Hubby and I went to public school, and we moved to this house because we have good public schools around us. But we just found out they're opening a new Jewish Day School, so when the time comes we'll consider that. It's charter so it won't cost anything. And I think it would be nice for her to learn more about her religion and have daily Hebrew classes. But we'll see, we have a few years.

Public. Smaller class sizes would be nice (although I don't think every private school has smaller class sizes), but I wouldn't assume that private schools have more parent active involvement, there are tons of kids in private school whose parents work 100 hours a week each, just like pubilc school. I went to public school and there were tons of involved parents

We purchased a home in a good school district specifically so we weren't paying school taxes to a public school and tuition to a private school.

I went to public school and I had no trouble learning and getting into a good college, etc.

Public school, definitely. Standardized test scores and class sizes scare parents away-- the most important thing is that your child gets support from you at home!

I'm a public school teacher and fully support public education. I want my future child to be in a diverse environment. But I will pay careful attention to the teachers at his/her school and will be as involved as possible.

I think we are going to home school.

DS will go to public school. We are in a smaller more rural schhol district. DH and I both went to similar public schools and liked it. Good teachers are important, but being involved in your child's education and holding them accountable for their work and behaviors in school is probably one if the most important things. DH is a middle school teacher and I work with residential kids. There are soooo many parents who are oblivious to their kids' behaviors and blame the teachers for everything. If I acted out in school or didn't do my work, I got my butt kicked, my parents never blamed the teacher. Although this is all more applicable to middle school and high school.

Public school for elementary and middle. Private or specialty school (if we can get in) for high because our high schools in my neighborhood are scaaaaary.

I am so confused about school systems here in England. If I was in the US we'd definitely be picking where we lived based on the schools because I really believe in public education. As it is, I have tons of research ahead of me!
I think here it's more common to send the kids to the equivalents of public schools at first, but then move to private-style later. They keep changing the system, so it's even different than when my husband went through!

We'll be doing public school for sure but what kind is still in question. If we stay where we currently live, I'd love to try to get my daughter into one of the local magnet schools and then eventually a charter school for the higher grades.

Public school. I went to public schools all my life and loved it, but the school district I grew up in was pretty well ranked. My husband, on the other hand, went to private schools up until high school - and he didn't have the best experience though he does talk about a handful of great teachers. But I also had great, influential teachers so I think the teacher debate of private vs. public is a wash.

One of the reasons we live where we live is because it offers one of the best public school systems in the nation. If we lived in an area with less quality public schools, then I'd more seriously consider sending my LO to a private school...
