I'm not completely clear about the situation but...if you're TTC you should only take it after you've confirmed O, because taking progesterone can prevent O. Also, it's possible that stopping the progesterone brought on AF, because it's the drop in progesterone that makes AF start. So I'm not sure how they expect you to get your period on it?

Like the other posters, I was also told to go on it after confirming O after timed intercourse or IUI.

There is one other situation in which I was told to take progesterone. I went to my obgyn because I wasn't getting regular periods after coming off BCP. I was just spotting here and there and didn't get my period for months. So my doc said to take it for five days and then stop, and then my period would come. So the purpose was just to jumpstart the next cycle so that we could at least try.

But yes, I agree with the others that you should definitely clarify with your doctor. Be as specific as possible and ask him/her to be as specific as possible.

Thought I would chime in. But I'm NOT a doctor and it sounds like your doctor has different reasons for putting you on progesterone.....

In my case, I have low progesterone after I O, so my DR. prescribed it to be used sort of how @spaniellove: and @KT326: have described. I'm to start taking it a few days after a positive OPK. Then, after two weeks, take a pregnancy test. If it's positive, keep using the progesterone! If it's negative, stop.
The Progesterone will keep your period from coming at all, which is why you have to rely on the test itself to determine what to do next.

But again, I'm no expert and your doctor should be able to explain exactly why they want you to do what they want you to do. Don't stop asking questions until you feel like you understand what they are asking you to do!!! Good luck!
