So I picked up my progesterone suppositories from Freedom fertility and I'm pretty sure they're generic. They don't have a brand name label or come with instructions. I've heard and read so much about endometrin and crinone that I'm surprised that I wasn't prescribed one them. I called the pharmacy and asked if this was natural progesterone just to make sure and honestly the pharmacist seemed a little confused by my question and said it's fine to take but then went on to say, " I would say it's more synthetic than natural"...what?! I thought the synthetic was the dangerous one to take while pregnant. I'm supposed to start tomorrow morning but now I'm confused and a little nervous. Anyone take the no name suppositories compounded by the pharmacy?

Are they in a white package and shaped like a bullet?

For my IUI cycle, they prescribed Prometrium, but I just did the generic and it was a small yellow oval football. Is that what yours looks like? My clinic does that for IUIs but does the Endometrin for IVF cycles.

I also used a bullet shaped one that was compounded by the pharmacy for my IUIs.

Mine were generic made at a compounding pharmacy. I actually had an issue where they caused irritation, then the pharmacist made new ones with a different compounding agent. So I am sure they have different ingredients (i.e. more synthetic vs. natural) that they can choose from.

@LalaLove: those are the ones I had! I also got them from freedom.
I got those specifically bc my insurance didn't cover progesterone, and crinone was $18/day.
Anyway, keep them in the fridge. The instructions said you didn't have to, but I found insertion so much easier if they were cold.
Make sure you get them in as close to your cervix as possible. Mine didn't leak an awful ly but I still wore a pad just in case.
There's a post from last fall floating around about them, too. I took them in November (BFN) and December (BFP), and stayed on them until I was 11 weeks pregnant.
My insurance would only issue a 4 week supply at a time. Freedom took 3-4 days to process and deliver the order, so find out how long you'll need to be on them and what your insurance will cover, then reorder when you have 2 weeks left just to be safe! I was in a snafu over NYE last year!
ETA: my insurance wouldn't cover name brand progesterone but these suppositores were covered.

So I called freedom and they said unless your RE specifically asks for crinone or endometrin, you get the compounded bullets. He said not to worry at all. I just used one and boy are they messy. The first two I opened up went flying out of my hands and across the room and the third started to crumble and fall apart lol ughh how fun..

And definitely refrigerate.
I never had one break or crumble, or had any difficulty with insertion. I took them for months.
