After meeting with the Houston Bees this weekend for brunch, I was told to protest our home property tax appraisal value each year, which I never knew!

The best part is that it's all online and with a few clicks of the phone, I submitted our first ever protest on the value. When compared to a home literally right next door, our house was over 7% higher and we have literally done nothing since we moved in 5 years ago.

This was such and easy process that I wish we had been doing this since we first bought our house. Plus with the oil and gas market down, there is no way our house value is that good.

Further it seems we don't have a homestead exemption on file, which also seems crazy. So I downloaded the app for it and I'm going to submit that exemption request tonight too!

I've never really read the appraisal and homestead papers in depth before and if I did it was too imitating to think about doing. But with the protest online and the homestead as an app, I don't think it could be any easier now and I'm definitely going to keep trying each year!

Do you protest your property tax value? What about exceptions, do you have your house homesteaded or claim a different one?

Thanks again to Mrs. Pickle and LawBee11 for the tax info!
