Have you tried a pure barre class? I keep hearing such good things but they are so expensive!!

I've done Bar Method, which I believe is very similar. It was definitely a good core workout. But yes, very pricey!

I did BarreAmped, which is similar. If you are interested, see if the studio near you has a new member special/first-timer price or try to find a groupon. The workout is excellent!

We just got a studio in Virginia Beach, and I REALLY want to try t, but you're right - it's so expensive. I just can't justify the cost.

I took my first class today and it was so freaking hard! They ha a new member special-one month for $100. Plus they have childcare at the one I attend. It's Barre3. They do have online videos for post partum women
My abs are trashed right now-sitting up from the couch is impossible-it was great to have so many variations to do to build up the strength

@blackbird: I wish the one by me had child are! Otherwise I could only go on weekends and it seems like is have to do it more often to see the results. I might try online but I fear I won't have the motivation to stick with it.

The barre3 online videos are great! They have different length ones (10, 30, 40 minutes) so you pick what you have time for. There's a good assortment of videos too. It's $15 a month to have access, which I think is a small price to try it out. I love them!

Yes! I love Pure Barre and I splurged on a few class packages before I got married. Unfortunately, I don't live near a studio anymore so I bought some of the DVDs.

@autumnlove: I love the Physique 57 DVDs. They are a great workout, I remember when I first started, I did the DVDs for a couple of weeks and noticed muscles in my leg that I hadn't seen in ages! I need to get back to it. I've taken the class, too and I think I almost died. I will stick to the video because I can take a break without feeling like a pansy.

Yea I loooove it!!!!!! It got my core in amazing shape. Just posted a pic in another thread of my abs after doing no strength training other than pure barre for 8 months. Can't wait to get back post baby!

I also do the physique 57 dvds...the classes are too expensive for me and too hard to work around my schedule. I got a good deal on the 3 dvd set, so it has a 30 min workout, a 57 min workout and i think an abs workout (which i've never done).
I once took a barre method class, which i really enjoyed.
@JoJoGirl: when during your pregnancy did you stop doing the classes?

I like the pure barre classes but couldn't justify the price. I bought the DVDs though.

@Pirouette: gosh lets see. Around 25 weeks I was diagnosed with diastasis so had to significantly modify everything, ie no planks, no ab work, so focused on arms and lower body. I was still going at 35 weeks but it was realllllyyyyy hard. I was signed up to go to class the day after I went into labor at 37+3 so was optimistically hoping to go til the end, but my sciatica was so bad at that point I'm not sure how many more classes I'd have made it to!

@JoJoGirl: you are so hard core!! I'm hoping to be able to keep up with my ballet classes throughout (with modifications obviously) but i can see falling completely off the wagon once my belly gets big! seriously, you're my role model!

I've done Barre3 - it was a ton of fun but, yes, on the expensive side!
@Pirouette: I've debated trying the Physique 57 DVDs since I can't afford the classes. Where did you buy them?
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@LindsayInNYC: I actually got them a few years ago through an offer on gilt, so they were pretty cheap. I think you can get them on amazon (though it might be more expensive).

@Pirouette: haha aww trust me I was not doing the full workout by the end!! But thanks

i have done pure barre, but now regularly do dailey method, which is similar, but less cardio.
@Pirouette: i did the dailey method throughout my pregnancy, up until a week before i gave birth. i would have done it more but i got the flu that week! it was awesome to keep me in shape. i've read that people that practice go into labor sooner, have a quick labor, good delivery and bounce back PP faster. it was certainly true for me. i do trade to get free classes. maybe you could work something out at a studio near you?
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@birdofafeather: that's awesome! I want all those things (especially a quick labor!) it doesn't look like dailey method is in NY though. and I can't really justify paying for the classes on top of my ballet classes (which are super expensive) and my gym membership, but i'm thinking of ordering a barre dvd (in addition to the physique 57, which i'm getting a little bored with)...would you recommend dailey method over pure barre for during pregnancy? i see they have a prenatal one for pure barre as well, but i'm wondering if I'm better off adapting the normal one so i can use it pp!
pineapple / 12053 posts
@Pirouette: i do know that DM has protocols for pregnancy. i did everything in the class, just with modifications. like staying on my knees during plank, etc. it's way less stress on your body and less overall injuries.

There is a promo code on dailygarnish.com for the video option at Barre 3 if anyone is interested. I haven't tried it yet but I an hoping to someone in the next week or so.

@birdofafeather: thanks so much! It's great to know there is guidance out there...I think I'm gonna order it this weekend!

Bumping this up because I just bought a pack of 6 classes for $50.
I can't begin until January, but I am so excited about it.

I've done Bar Method and I love it! It's a great workout. The first time I did it, I was sooooo sore the day after. It is pretty expensive, though, so I do it sparingly
persimmon / 1095 posts
I went to a free bure barre class the other week and it was intense. I'm in good shape and it had my legs and abs shaking. I was sore for three days.

I've done BarreAmped. Of all the classes I've taken in the last few years (bootcamp, hot yoga, etc.) I found it to be the hardest and most effective. The closest studio is really small, though, so the most convenient classes are always filled up.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@looch: Whoa, really? I didn't even realize there was one by us. Where did you get the deal?
Related: I have done FlyBarre twice and am about to buy a package. I love, love, love it.

Aw. Still PB, especially now post-partum when I need the core work.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@theonewhere: I love BarreAmped! I can't wait to go back next month.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@meredithNYC: amazon local, I'll send you an email, deal is still good for another 21 days.
bananas / 9229 posts
Bumping!
I've done Barre3, Bar Method and recently started Pure Barre. It's a new studio so there are still some improvements to be made and I'm still learning but I do like it.
