It seems a little like a joke that I couldn't get pregnant but our goats seem to be exceptionally fertile. We just had our second set of quads last night! All girls this time.

They are SO small. They range from 1.6 lbs to 3 lbs. Total they are less than 9 lbs of goat!

Soooo cute! And how fun is it for the kids you're providing respite care for to experience their own personal petting zoo!?!
@Mrs. Turtle: How many adult goats do you have? Do you intentionally breed them, or does nature just take it's course?

@PinkElephant: we have two does and one buck. We intentionally breed them...if we let nature take its course we'd probably have two sets of kids each year! We keep our buck separated most of the time. Our does don't like him very much, he never leaves them alone!

@PinkElephant: yes on the petting zoo! We have a 12 year old girl staying with us for 9 days starting tomorrow. I'm hoping she likes animals and will help with all the baby goat bottle feeding! We don't normally bottle raise the kids but quadruplets is a lot for mom and two of them are incredibly tiny and weak so I think they need some extra help to make it.

Congratulations! What a fun project for the summer! I'm sure your respite kids will love them (and T once really realizes what's going on!)

@Mrs. Microscope: T loves them, but he is so strong now. He mostly wants to grab their heads and eat them. Haha!

Aaaaahhhhh!!
May I suggest a Daily Baby Goats photo update? I think it would liven up the boards quite a bit. If you're up to it; you have your hands full!

Here are the two skinny minis this morning. We are pretty worried about them because of their size but they are doing well nursing on their own at the moment!

what are their names? Didn't you name the last ones after spices or something?
blogger / pear / 1509 posts
@LaughLines: we're thinking flower names this time because we finally have all girls. Our does are Basil and Parsley. Basil's kids are Rye, Timothy, Alfalfa and Clover, all types of hay. Last year's were poorly planned. We had Mango, Spicy and Sassafras and Chutney and Cotton.

ooo flower names is a great idea!
beyond the most obvious ones (rose, lilly, daisy, etc) there are tons of choices!
Buttercup would be an adorable name for a goat!
Primrose
Holly
Iris
Jasmine
Petunia (for one of the "petite" little ones?)
Zinnia
(sorry if you weren't asking for ideas, i just got excited )

@LaughLines: yes! I love suggestions. It took us weeks last time to name them. I'll add yours to the list and let you know when we decide!

So sweet! I'm going to show them to DH, I'm trying to convince him we need to move to the country so I can have goats!

@Mrs. Turtle: So are quads pretty rare for goats? What is an average litter for goats?
Very cute! Thanks for sharing. Yeah, after dealing with IF, I know all about being around fertile people or animals.
