@Coco Bee: Give it a couple of days...Americans have a short attention span, I'm sure something else will happen soon to clog up our newsfeeds.

@Coco Bee: Minnesota did not pass an amendement that will allow passage of gay marriage. In fact, there is already a law on the books in MN that people are not able to gay marry. Instead this was a constitutional amendment to enshrine the disallowing of gay marriage into the constitution. Voters rejected the constitutional amendment. I think it's important to understand the actual issues and what is actually being legislated/voted on.

Anyway, I find it kind of funny that people would seek to flee to a more liberal democracy than the US to get away from US law.

So funny - I've seen the same thing with people saying they're moving to Australia if Obama won! I saw the following on facebook and had to post it:

"To the republicans who said they will move to Australia if Obama won:
Australia has universal health care, compulsory voting, no guns, no death penalty, pro-choice when it comes to contraception, openly gay politicians and judges, evolution is taught in all schools, and our female PM (prime minister) is an unmarried atheist."

Now to give those people credit, Australia has an amazing quality of life - far better than in the US - so I could see why they would want to move here.....but it would be nice if they were at least a little bit informed before making such statements!

Yes... but Americans obviously can't show up at the border and expect a welcome mat. The main ways foreigners become Canadian residents are by marrying a Canadian citizen or receiving a job offer. Other options include possessing work expertise that is lacking in Canada, or promising to invest a lot of cash in a new Canadian business. Those fleeing America could also theoretically claim refugee status based on a "fear of persecution." However, despite the various doomsday scenarios concocted by both liberals and conservatives, it would be a stretch to make such a claim just because your presidential candidate didn't win.

I am one of those people that had dreams of runing away to Canada when President George W. Bush was in office. I remember being super pissed when Canada legalized same-sex marriage because I had plans to find myself a gay Canadian boyfriend to marry so I could move there and get universal healthcare. My plan to live there was foiled.
