We split equally by bedroom

I would split by room as long as they're similar

(if someone ends up with a super nice suite while someone else in in a loft with no privacy, I'd adjust accordingly)

For sleeping, I think splitting makes sense. Things like food would be more complicated.

I don't remember how we paid but I do know we each took 1 night and had to make dinner for everyone - it was nice to only have to do it 1 time!

@Anagram: if your kids are staying with you in your room, don't pay more!

@Anagram: my inlaws rented a beach house 5 years back. They paid for the house. BIL, his ex wife and two girls got the master bed with bath since they had 4. Inlaws got the second biggest room. DH and I got the smallest.

Since inlaws paid for the house the rest of us were to split food. We didn't nickel and dime and expected BIL to pay for more food since they had more mouths to feed. TBH DH and I probably paid for more and did more cooking.

We would probably just split it by room!

We're going on vacation with friends, and we're splitting equally. Two families are families of 4 and one is a family of 3. We're assuming the kids will all sleep together in the bunk room and each couple will have their own room. Babies will stay with the couples who have their own room.

Interesting. We have always done it by family (divide total by number of families), BUT kids are a recent addition to the equation, so I hadn't considered how that would change things!

I would split by bedrooms. Say it is 1000 for the week, 4 bedrooms, so $250 per room. If a family takes 2 rooms, they pay $500.
