Our kids got facepainted yesterday evening and everything seemed fine. We removed the facepaint before bedtime but while we were reading books, my daughter complained that her face was itchy. Where the paint had been applied on one side of her face, she had broken out in a rash!
The rash had disappeared by morning, but now I will be much more wary about facepaint in the future. Have you guys ever deal with rashes/irritation from facepaint?

I'm afraid of having my sons face painted for this very reason!
He has tons of skin issues, so I'm very cautious about anything on his skin.

@mrbee: My first thought was soy in the paint, but I cannot remember if they were soy sensative or just dairy?

@anbanan15: They seem to be over their food sensitivities these days, by my son definitely had some dairy issues early on. But yah, maybe it was soy or something similar... will be more careful from now on!!

Face painting is just so questionable to me....you never know how well they cleaned the brushes, if they double dip into the paint, etc etc. I could go on and on.
My son is sensitive to people touching his head and face, so we've managed to avoid it.

@mrbee: do you know what types of face paint they were using? We usually have a face painter at my company picnic and I think last year, I asked what kind of paint they used.

I had this the entire time I was a child. I was never able to get face paint. It tapered off as I became a teenager. Just sensitive skin, I suppose.

My oldest has eczema and food allergies plus sensitivities, and she can't handle face paint. The first and last time she got it, she rashed up within 10 minutes of it! Not sure if the face paint has what she's allergic and/or sensitive to in it, but I, like PP's, am wary of face paint because of the double dipping and brushes being clean. We just stay clear of it and stick with temporary tattoos.

I remember as a kid, one Halloween we got some sort of gold stuff for my face, and it irritated my skin. But I'm pretty sure I never had issues with face painting. I just got it done last year and didn't have any problems. Though I'm glad you mentioned it so it can be on my radar. I've never even thought about it, though I wonder now if my brother (who has a ton of allergies) ever had issues.
