So my son is 10.5 months and has been in his own crib for many months now. I've always wondered about the logic behind the recommendation that you keep the baby in the room with you for the first six months (and according to someone on another thread, they're about to increase it to the first year!). They say it's to reduce the risk of SIDS, I think.... but... if SIDS is going to happen, isn't it going to happen regardless of where the baby is? I mean, SIDS is sudden and unexplained, right?
So what difference does it make if the baby is in the room with you, in another room just across the way, or even on the other side of the house?
I'm genuinely curious. Anyone know what the logic is? I always assumed it was more for parental peace of mind than anything else.
