M slept in her regular RnP for all nights and naps for the first several months. It fit in the small space next to my bed and it was SO helpful to be able to rock her to sleep while she was already in it. I think the way that it cradled her was very important as well. Best money I've ever spent.

@fussygal: we had one similar with solid sides like that and it was never an issue. We didn't get a whole of use out of it so I thought it was sort of a waste of money in the long run. DS started to not want to be put down in it so we ended up cobedding. He could have fit in it a lot longer though. We didn't use a pack n play because we also didn't think we would need it (and haven't felt the need for one yet at 13 months)

I'm not a fan of bassinets beause it is such a short timeframe to use them, our LO slept in the RNP fulltime and loved it. She had reflux so the incline was great for her.

I would buy a PNP over a bassinet personally, you will get more use out of it over the long haul!

@fussygal: oh, yes, they ARE hideous. I didn't love it but, honestly we used the heck out of it:) Now we use it to go to grandma's when he has to nap there (like if we're there all day for Thanksgiving or something) and we used it a bunch when we went to BBQs in a park or something because he would sit in there instead of in the grass and also he was safe and we wouldnt have to worry about him crawling away. We also have lent it to MANY friends because it wipes down easily. So, there is always that. I am sure you can get a good price too. I bought mine from walmart for less than $100 and it came with a bassinet/changer, carrying case, toy rack and a diaper holder. but it is the same really as the first one, because the changer rotates and becomes the bassinet, so no need to spent the extra $$

I have used the rock n play bassinet and I hate the way it rocks, it kind of jolts from side to side tossing the baby with and it is hard to get a rhythm going.

Ugly as it is, the PNP might be the way to go unless you can get one that goes with your stroller.

I recommend an Arms Reach Mini Cosleeper. It's so convenient for nighttime wake ups! They're kind of expensive but we found ours on Craigslist for only $60! It can also be converted to a playpen.

@MrsMcD: Hahha *this*! I think that's why I have been researching baby gear since before I was pregnant too. Some of it is just so hideous....there is no reason for that.

It's all kind of ugly, but man...it was useful. The way I look at it is: I get to sell it all and have it out of my house in a few years.

@fussygal: the stokke is to die for. If I didn't already have a bouncer, rock n play, pack n play and bassinet, i'd get it. Of course, it was not around when I was pregnant though.

@mamabear57: I live in a small condo and I just can't even imagine where I would put a pack n play, especially a hideous looking one. I agree that the European brands look better.

You have my dream furniture! It makes sense to justify the cost if you plan on using it for more than one kid.
