Next month, DH and I will be spending a long weekend with my good friend and her DH (and our kids). Our husbands get along fine, but they're not as close as my friend and I, so we'd like to have activities that are fun & will help us get to know each other.
Do you guys have any favorite adult games or board games you can recommend? Bonus points of they involve getting to know each other type questions/activities, but other types ok as well!

Balderdash & Things In A Box are both awesome. Great ice breaker games. They can be made as tame or wild as your group chooses!

We've been playing Cards Against Humanity (card game) and What's Up? (Phone app) lately and they are both a lot of fun.

Apples to Apples is super fun! I highly recommend it. We also sometimes play Bananagrams but it isn't all that interactive. Our friends also often play Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride, my DH isn't big on board games 
but I hear good things about those two.

We love Cards Against Humanity and LRC is always fun too. head's up (Ellen's game app) is really fun too.

Yep, Cards Against Humanity is an easy fun game (similar to Apples to Apples, but not PC).
@shellio: Settlers of Catan is awesome. Great game and pretty easy to learn.
Another easy one is Dominion - that's also a card game, but not like CAH. Another fun one is Seven Wonders.

My favorites are Ticket to Ride (we have both the USA and Europe editions), Things in a Box, and Bang!.
Settlers of Catan, Power Grid, Seven Wonders, and Small World are also pretty fun.

Seconding @mrs. Wagon's recommendations of Wits and Wagers and Loaded Questions for conversation. We've also really been liking "Name 5" lately, it's been a hit with a variety of people.
It's important to know your crowd, too... most games fall into a couple of categories: basic fun (apples to apples) verbal knowledge/speed (scattegories, bananagrams, taboo), strategy (ticket to ride, catan), etc.

@DesertDreams88: you're right! I feel like fun/words/trivia/questions games might be better, just because we have limited time and some of the strategy games probably take a lot longer to really get into? At least that's my perception.

@moonmoon: yeah, I feel like the strategy games take at least two rounds of play - one to get to know the game, and one to truly enjoy it! That being said, they appeal a lot to regular game-players, but that doesn't sound like your crowd.
Another category could be visual (non-word) games, like Blokus and Qwirkle. My ILs LOVE those games, but I'm not so great at them. I'm more of a speedy word-game type.

Did someone say "Game of Things" yet? I like that... it's like apple to apples.
There is card that says "Things you would not say to a child"... then everyone will write an answer and you have to guess who said what. There are points involved. Pretty fun.

Personally, I love Scrabble but it can be hard if one or two people are way better at it. But we've developed two alternates that are super fun with lots of people of varying levels - Speed Scrabble and Freeform/Drinking Scrabble. Speed Scrabble is pretty simple - it's like regular Scrabble but without turns. It's just a free for all and everyone is in charge of keeping their own score. Freeform Scrabble is played without the board. Letters are in the middle. Everyone starts with 7 and tries to get them all into a crossword design (words all connected) on the table in front font of you. First person to get them all to fit into a crossword design yells "Go" and everyone has to grab three more letters and incorporate those (and take a drink if you're doing the drinking version). You can move letters and words at any time, but your'e trying to get all your letters into words that are connected in a crossword design. When all letters have been taken, the first to get them all incorporated into a crossword design wins.

Ok can you guys break down Settlers of Catan for me? So many recommendations for it, but I've never played it, what make it fun?
