Has your LO ever refused to go potty??
My 3.5 year old DD has been potty trained for about 8 months. Recently she REFUSES to go potty. She'll be holding herself, doing the potty dance, etc and just will not go. She doesn't seem to have any pain when she does go, so I can't decide if it's a behavioral thing or a possible health thing. Any thoughts?

@oxana: either, I think. When she really has to poop she'll go. But otherwise she spends half the day holding her crotch or laying on the floor with her legs crossed, so I'm not sure if it's pee or poop.

You could check to see if her urine is cloudy or smells weird, but if she seems to be holding both and isn't in pain when she pees. It's probably not a UTI. I'd probably try ignoring the behavior completely for a few days to see if it has to do with getting extra attention or feeling pressured.

how do things end? do you force her to go sit on the potty or did she start having accidents? my son is pretty well potty-trained, but if he's doing something fun, he won't tell us he has to go (even if we ask) and he'll have an accident. but if we "force" him to at least go try, he'll go (sometimes after some tears and a fit of us making him do something he doesn't want to do).
it's a fun time, right?

@megjay18: it doesn't really end. I can't force her to go potty. Usually she just keeps holding it all day and eventually she'll go, maybe with a bribe. She doesn't usually get to the point of an accident.

@BeachMama: ugh. that's so tough. it feels like a lose-lose situation for sure. i guess i would ask the doctor for advice. i mean holding it for so long has got to hurt, right?

Mine will hold pee and poop if she's constipated. She'll wiggle for hours and refuse kicking and screaming if I try to put her on the toilet against her will. She will occasionally hold it too long and a little urine escapes.
As long as we keep her regular there aren't any problems.
