It's actually not recommended that you feed cereal in a bottle anymore unless directed by a doctor for something like reflux. We started E with 1-2 tablespoons of cereal mixed with some breastmilk/formula to a soupy consistency once a day fed with a spoon.

Under the advice of a doctor, we mixed in cereal with her bottle to see if it helped with her reflux, but it didn't make a difference so they told us to stop feeding in the bottle and mix with formula/BM and spoon feed it so she gets the hang of a spoon. You might want to check with your pedirician which way they want you to do it.

I'm trying to figure out why are you feeding it in a bottle?

Personally I wouldn't feed rice cereal at all (for the same reasons others have mentioned) but that's just me...

By the way, I meant my Q in a non-judgey way...honestly I was just curious because if you're starting solids, you should start with a spoon. But, if you're doing it for reflux then that's a different story.
With my son (severe reflux until 3m of age), our ped had him on Zantac (highest dose allowable) and it did nothing. So, he told me to put 1 teaspoon into every pumped bottle he had to lessen the reflux. It basically weighed down the milk & prevented it from coming up. It worked like a charm and luckily for me, I was exclude let pumping at the time. He quickly got over the reflux and so I stopped the rice cereal entirely.
Now at 6m, he does a mix of BLW & purees. We don't do rice cereal because of its bland taste and lack of nutrients, to be honest.
*It was 1 teaspoon to every oz and medium flow nipple.

We gave rice cereal to our LO to help with his reflux and we did the exact same thing as @turtledoves. Once he was ready to start on solids everything we've given him has been with a spoon.
