My pedi told me to avoid rice cereal bc they are now finding that it has higher than normal levels of arsenic in it. He suggested oatmeal if we wanted to go with cereal, but preferably banana. Liv HATES the texture of that and purees though, so we went BLW instead. But occasionally she will eat a few bites of super thick oatmeal.
Plus its just kind of a filler and empty carbs. Id start with banana or something

Neither! We tried both after a few other veggies/fruits but it just seemed like filler food to me with not a lot of nutritional value.

We tried oatmeal first (for a day or so) and then went straight to purees.

I dont have a baby yet but I think I would go for oatmeal because it just seems healthier lol. You can make your own rice or oatmeal cereal if you have a blender that has mill blades

Our pediatrician suggested that if LO wasn't pooping very often, we should stick with oatmeal, and if we were having the opposite problem, go with rice. But she didn't really care if we did cereals at all.
LO didn't particularly care for rice cereal or oatmeal. He just wanted bananas all the time. If I did things over, I'd skip the cereals and just try mushed up fruits and veggies.

We started with fruits and veggies but when we started cereal, it was brown rice. LO likes it a lot!

We did rice, for a week or two. Basically it was just to get LO used to the idea of eating. Cereal was easiest. LO was still getting all their nutrtional needs from breastmilk at that point.

I used multigrain rice cereal. LO didn't like it so we went straight to fruits and veggies.

We started with rice, but I don't think we even finished the box before we moved to oatmeal. My son loves it, and I always made it with a fruit. In the beginning we used the iron fortified baby cereal (after 6 months of age their iron stores start to deplete) and we switched to fine milled regular oatmeal made with milk at one year.
