For Liam, we used the bassinet part of the pack n play when he was a newborn, but it was really big and he didn't love sleeping in it. I want to do something different for baby #2 and I really like the idea of a moses basket with rocking stand so we can move it from room to room. It's also really cute.
But... I know babies love the rock n play. I see it everywhere and I don't want to just get the moses basket because it's cuter. I want something functional, too.
Which one?

We got a moses basket and stand for DD, it worked great for us. We never bought or used a RNP.

We had the moses basket and stand (which allowed it to rock side to side). LO slept in it until she was 8 weeks old and it worked out great for us.

J hated lying flat in the Moses basket and loved the recline/swaddle of the RnP so much that we had 3!

I really can't say enough about the r'n'p. it was our #1 baby item. She slept in it forever and it folds up flat for travel or storage. We already have it in the nursery ready for baby #2!

We had a rock n play which works great, but if you can, I'd hold out for the new automatic rocking one. That would have been a life saver for us!

I feel like the Moses basket wouldn't be used very long at all unless you have a really little baby. I liked our pack n play with the newborn napper for the first couple months, but of those two I'd go with the rnp since it would probably be used longer.

we didn't use a moses basket, but my sister did, she liked that it was higher. We had a RnP and DD loved it. We liked that the RnP was small, folded flat.

H hated the Moses basket. She kept hitting the sides with her arms and waking up.

We used a moses basket with a rocking stand and it worked well for LO for several months (4 or 5?). We never had a RNP.

We had a traditional bassinet (oval shape and lay flat like the moses basket but sat on a stand w/ wheels) and the RnP. Much to our chagrin Fiona only really slept in the RnP or the bouncy seat. she hated lying flat and being open. we ended up using the bassinet for downstairs diaper changes to be honest.

We used our RNP some but I have heard it can be tough to transition from that to sleeping on a flat surface. It's nice for travel and random napping around the house but I wouldn't use it as the primary sleeping gizmo unless you have to for reflux or keeping your sanity reasons. It was also nice when DD was small and had a cold, but her car seat would have worked just as well.

I haven't used the Moses basket but I loved our RnP for the portability factor. We brought it with us into different rooms in the house and to relatives homes when we traveled around the holidays. It was one of the best items we had.

We've been using a Moses basket with a stand and 3 weeks in it's worked perfectly.

My LO was never into the Rock n Play. She slept in it occasionally for short naps as a newborn, but would never sleep in it for long periods.
LO also had a flat head at birth, and our pediatrician cautioned again using the RnP or the Car seat a lot (as in, not to use the car seat as a stroller). We cut way down on the RnP, started using head positioners, and avoided a helmet.

@BadgerMom: whatthewhat??? RnPs have gotten better each year! We had the plain one for C 2 years ago, then got the vibrating one for H this year. Good thing I'm done having kids or I'd end up with 3 RnPs!

We never had a swing for Liam, so I'm thinking the RNP would be a good substitute, especially if we get the automatic one. But I'm still torn... I have time to decide.

@BadgerMom: We didn't use either an RnP or a moses basket with ds (he mainly co-slept as he hated the PnP) but we were really thinking hard about getting RnPs for our twins when they come. After seeing this I'm pretty much 100% set. Thanks for showing me this!

RnP is great if LO ends up with reflux. We used it with R and it was great!
