Do you know when your school usually distributes their supply lists for the coming school year?
We will need to buy some for UPK in the Fall and I feel like supply sales are always much earlier than i expect!

For us, it's online. You can call the school and ask too. You can also start by buying the stuff you know they will need pencils, crayons, scissors when it is on sale.

Ours is online too. It's all pretty basic stuff: pencils, erasers, crayons, scissors, pack of construction paper, etc. The school orders stuff like binders, individual dry erase boards, etc. and will bill us for those items. I looked at the list and nothing really stands out.
That said, we have to put the child's name on everything, so I'm going to look into getting personalized stickers.

@lamariniere: Another good idea a teacher friend did with her daughter is she ordered a cheap personal stamp with her name on it and special permanent ink. She stamped crayons and everything! I have the ink but not the stamp yet. Think I'm going that route the first year. Writing names on each crayon for four boxes of crayons is a pain!

Thanks ladies! I'm hesitant to buy anything yet because I know the really good sales are coming. And I know some schools get pretty specific about brand of pencils, crayons, glue sticks. Some things go into a communal pool and some are personal and need to be labeled. I'm going to wait till I know all the details before buying anything.
That being said - a PTA member told me she's already gotten a peek at the list so I'm sure it's coming soon.

@808love: labeling each crayon sounds crazy!

@regberadaisy: Yes, I text my friend who teaches Kinder at the school and asked her for the list last fall. I was shopping last September's clearance sales for this July's enrollment. LOL!

It's been out and I already placed my order for the box that shows up on the first day of class. It's actually very competitively priced and only includes what you need (vs buying a pack of 3 eraser when you only need one).

@808love: whoa! Each crayon?! I actually don't now if I have to do that yet, but I'll keep the stamp idea in mind if we do.
@T-Mom: I wish ours would just buy everything too!

@T-Mom: hehe their school does this too. They don't typically do UPK boxes but she's going to put together a price for me. I Actually reached out and asked because you told me yours did!

Even if you over buy during the big sales, there are always school supply drives for kids in need at the beginning of the year, so your excess items won't have to clutter up your house for another year. Buying extra school supplies for charity is one of the cheapest (and most fun - I love buying school supplies!) ways we give back all year!
