Woo hoo! We just got back from a consignment sale and totally scored. We only spent $20.05 and this is everything we got:
10 onesies
7 pants
2 dresses
7 sleepers
4 hats
8 bibs
20 socks
1 patent Mary janes
1 crib sheet
4 receiving blankets
5 shirt/pants outfits
And that's all. The best thing is that most of the items were new! Or at least looked new.
Do you ever shop at consignment sales?

I totally scored at our local bi-annual consignment sale last winter! I don't even remember all the pieces I bought but I spent $85 for probably close to $300 worth of stuff! That included a little kiddie desk I got for $15 (retails for $60)!!

@sorrycharlie: ya this was my first as well. Kind of fun. I might suggest bringing a reusable tote or something. I didn't realize they didn't have bags and kept dropping everything!

@anonysquire: really really smart way to do it!! While I was shopping at the one I was at, I felt really STUPID for ever buying anything from anywhere else. And I can't wait to be a seller for the next one!!

@mrs. wagon: well since I frequent thrift stores I was kind of used to it I guess, but pleasantly surprised to find the prices lower than thrift stores. Some of those places rip you off! I should sell some of my extra stuff but I fear I'll always be a hoarder.

Now that I'm home I'm kicking myself for not buying the two petunia diaper bags for like 40 each. I'm sure a foster mom goes through diaper bags fast.

@highwire: there was still over priced items but I just kept looking. Like I got a yellow sleeper that has a duck on it and I hate ducks so I'll cover it with an appliqué or something. I refuse to pay more than a dollar though. I'm super cheap!
@abbydabbydoodlebug: Well actually I was just browsing my local classifieds and found it. I'm sure if you google children's consignment sale and your city or a nearby city it would bring one up?

OMG. There is a HUGE consignment sale going on right now and, while I did spend less than $300 (I have to look at the reciept again. I think it was closer to $275) I got a TON and 2 of the things were really big, really expensive items that I got for over 50% off and were NEW, Like, new new.
I got:
A NEW glider w/ ottoman ($100)
NEW travel system-the exact one we had been drooling over. (only $98!)
bumbo w/ tray ($3)
Pack and play ($15)
Bouncer
Mesh bath bouncer thing...
6 swaddlers
3 swaller sleep sacks
10 onesie sets
8 maternity shirts... they were all too cute to pass up and all but 1 can be worn as non-maternity and you would never know!
1 maternity dress- same deal w/ the non-maternity
1 new boppy with new/unopened cover
Baby Bjorn ($10!)
Infantino carrier NEW ($10... wasn't sure which one we would like more so I got them both and figured we could just re-sell the one we didn't like. He like the infantino, I like the Bjorn. Looks like we are keeping both!).
Oh! And a I will be picking up our vibrating/ position changing swing this weekend from somebody who just wanted to give me hers that she wasn't using! She got it at her baby shower and her kid hates it. It was like $100 and she is just giving it to me free!
@anonysquire: I am so glad I am not the only one who has found the wonders of consignment! I thought I did pretty well but looking at what all you got and for how much, I am
jealous!
The one I went to only does it twice a year and they have places all over the country. Right now is their spring sale. Rhea Lana is the name of the place. If you volunteer you even get in WAY before the public which means you get all the good stuff before anybody else can get in!

I am going to our "just between friends" sale tomorrow, excited that LO is actually here so I can size him properly with clothes instead of just guessing! He is growing so fast so I don't like paying full price!

That's an awesome deal!!!! I went to a consignment sale last night and the selection for infants was meh. There were tons of toys and clothes though.
