I was able to find a great deal on a ton of maternity clothes online and I decided to buy them- $20 for a huge amount of stuff! While there is a lot I will now be giving away, I got many pants, dresses, workout clothes, and swimsuits.
What are your feelings about secondhand clothes, especially from a stranger? Of course I am washing everything (!) but would you wear these comfortably?

I only bought my maternity clothes from a consignment shop. Especially for maternity clothes which get very little wear, I didn't want to spend a fortune.

I think its a great idea, but I'm too lazy to take the time to search for the right kind and the right size. I would totally take them if someone offered them too me though!

I think it's a great idea. I will be definitely going to JBF sale or other consignment stores to see if I can find some used maternity clothes. I'm all about saving money where I can.

i loooove thrift stores and consignment stores. for the past 5 years we've lived in 4 different places, but always close to an awesome thrift store. I buy used clothes all the time, including from a great local maternity consignment store!

Most of mine are from my sister! Im not against second hand, except for a swimsuit that's a little much from a stranger for me!

Awesome deal!! Maternity clothes are such a racket - most (even $$$$ pea in the pod) are poorly made from cheap fabrics, and then priced 2x/3x the price of normal women's clothing. On top of that, you only wear them for a few months. Wear your deal proudly!

I would! I've worn secondhand thrifted clothes for the longest time, the only reason I've bought new more recently is because I've been too lazy to sort through everything. But I'd totally love to find a maternity consignment store.

Yup, consigned maternity clothes are a great deal. I should have bought more but I didn't listen to people when they said, just buy a lot off craigslist! Also, it seems most of the women Selling maternity clothes in my area are size small. Hrmph.

When the time comes, I will totally be buying lots used! They're only worn for such a limited time, seems foolish to spend a ton of $$ on them. I'd rather have some nicer items that were used for 3 months by someone else rather than brand new lower quality things.

I would never wear a secondhand bra, underwear, or swimsuit. Maternity or not. Other things like shirts and pants I would wear if I knew the history of them. I would wear clothes from someone clean and who didn't smoke in them or store them in a smoky, dirty, pet filled house.
My SIL is pregnant and due 4 months after me so when I'm finished with my maternity clothes I plan on sending them her way and we'll share all our clothes back and forth in future pregnancies.

My entire maternity wardrobe was second hand. It was awesome. I felt like I had the power of all these strong amazing mamas behind me. I received 3 huge boxes and then gave away 4 to my friend. She's passed those down and the boxes continue to grow. So fun! Some of the clothes have initials on the tags and I have no idea who the initials were for. It wasn't the two previous owners of the clothes

I'd totally accept clothes from someone I know, but I am not into buying clothes secondhand from strangers, consigment shops or craigslist.
Where I live, there isn't a big secondhand lending because clothes are so expensive! People hold onto their stuff and when they are done, the clothes look pretty bad.

I cannot get over how expensive maternity clothes are! I am really hoping that I won't need to buy too much extra stuff and am glad that the bulk of my pregnancy will be over the summer, where I can get away with (hopefully!) wearing a lot of the cotton dresses and skirts I already have-- hopefully they'll grow with me
Thanks so much for all of your thoughts. Some of the clothes I received are quite nice and I think I am going to enjoy them. I also hope I can pass them along to someone else when I'm done!

Most of my maternity clothes are secondhand. A lot of them came from my sister, mostly tops. I bought the rest at thrift stores, including my absolute favorite pair of maternity jeans, two pairs of capris, two maternity shirts, and several "regular" shirts up a size/loose that got me through the first 18 weeks or so before my bump really stuck out.
Maternity clothes can be really expensive. I spent over $70 on four new items - and those were all on sale! The most expensive second-hand item was $4.99. I've been buying second-hand clothes for years, and I know which places near me generally carry good stuff.

A friend of a friend of a friend (I know, 3 degrees of seperation here) is rich, and had a shopping problem while pregnant (her words). Word got to me a few weeks ago that she had a bunch of maternity clothes she was selling and I bought $500 of stuff (most with tags still on from Neiman's and Pea in the Pod) for $75. SCORE! Everything but one item was brand new--I bought a used cashmere maternity sweater from her but it's still in great shape. It was such a good deal, and I wish I could find more friends of friends like her!

@Alivoo01-- Craigslist! Just so happened this person is about my size and I took a major gamble-- didn't even open up the "tub" she was selling and took them home. I had a really fun night shopping through this scavenger hunt!

@mrs. bird: that's my plan actually we hope to have one more kid and then i'll be selling them on craigslist or something. my husband came with me while i tried things on and he was like "just buy it all!"...i want to be a stylish pregnant lady

Most of my maternity clothes have been second hand. I am having a harder time this pregnancy than last because the consignment shop I went to a lot last time no longer sells maternity so I've had to buy some things brand new but luckily they were mostly t-shirts and I just bought regular ones that were a little longer so I'll be able to use them after delivery too.

I am all for second hand! I too cant get over the prices of new. Hard to justify when you only will be wearing them for a short period of time. I lucked out and a ton of my friends had babies last year. I am not in maternity clothes yet but my friends have already passed some along to me.

I intend to look for second hand stuff for at least some of wardrobe. I have a small box from my sister but unfortunately most of her maternity clothes disappeared after her first Pregnancy and she borrowed a lot from friends that had to be given back after second pregnancy, plus she had a job that required a uniform where I work in a business casual office. I don't think I'd take a used bathing suit other than from my sister or a really good friend. I'm hoping that I have some friends who might loan some stuff, but many of my friends are long done with the baby stage, happens when your 38.

I would have but I never found much. I got. 2 pairs of jeans from other mothers. The rest I bought from motherhood on clearance.

our local goodwill gets stuff from target all the time...so its brand new at a dirt cheap price...i agree with @eeh, no intimate suff. but if it is still in good shape then why not...
