September POAS - Fall for BFP's!

@Mrs. Microscope: No, I don't have pictures anymore. Most of the OPKs were taken in July. I had them for my ob/gyn visit and deleted them because I just found it weird to have them on my phone. Doc said not to bother with them right now. There were a few that were darker than the others, but nothing happened in July. I also had DH read the instructions and take a look at them to make sure I wasn't crazy. She suspected my body either kept trying to gear up for O and it never happened or I had active cysts. Timing seemed to be good, but I had to go back and reconstruct as it was kind of a surprise. It was really lucky that we've been trying to be pretty "active" just in case. I was supposed to start Provera tuesday evening, but didn't after the high temp.

@mrsvdv: I think so too, but wanted to make sure. I really wasn't expecting the notification this morning that FF had changed my O day. I should've known it would do something funky. I had the positive opks from CD 8 to roughly CD 22 and when my temp spiked it wouldn't put the coverline in until I changed all my opks to negative or n/a. I even checked my settings to make sure the software wasn't using the opks as the primary O indicator.

So I don't think I've O'd yet.....Hopefully soon though! Here's my chart so far this month.

I was taking clomid between days 5-9......did anyone else experience completely crazy temperatures then?? It looks like I'm starting to even out now though (hopefully before my O)

Good morning, ladies! My OPKs are confusing this month. I only have 4 so far because i didn't start as early as I'd hoped to, but Friday's was darker than Thursdays, Saturday's was darker than Friday's (but not close to the control line yet), then Sunday's was lighter! So I may have missed the surge, or maybe it will happen later this week? My cycles have been all over the place since I was still nursing until a couple of weeks ago, so I'm not really sure when I'll O.

    TTC Cycle #: 3
    POAS date: 9/16

@MrsBrewer: I had some crazy temps this month after Clomid days 5-9. Most of the time, my temps are pretty flat over the days. Are you taking temps by mouth or vaginally? The lines for me are always more smooth if I take them vaginally. Here is my chart...

  18. MrsBrewer

@Bigskygirl: Very interesting, I always take my temp orally. I guess I haven't considered taking it vaginally.

@Tidybee: @hilsy85: yay for joining!! good luck ladies!

    @MissLace: goodluck this month!!

@ballerinabee: hmmm not sure! I have to have the smiley face OPK's because I would never be able to tell the darkness/etc of the other kind

@cascademom: goodluck!! You will be POAS around the same date as me

    @auggiefrog: fingers crossed! Happy anniversary

@NovBaby1112: Ohh, good to know that I've got a buddy. I listed my POAS day as 8 DPO. I've noticed with LO's conception and my cycles that by 8 DPO, I stand the strongest chance at getting a BFP around that time.

@Bigskygirl: What brand / model of BBT do you use to temp? I plan to temp next cycle if this one is a bust, and the one I currently have (I think CVS generic?) when I use vaginally is a PITA because most of the time I don't hear it signal that it's done, so then I miss it, and then I've moved so much I'm not sure the temp is valid. I need something I can hear / is reliable!

    Welcome to the new ladies!

@Hoots: strange! Hopefully you get your BFP this month so younsont have to worry about the same thing next month.

@ballerinabee: I use the CVS brand BBT...located in the same section as the Pregnancy tests. It was reasonably priced and I find that it it quick and accurate.

Some helpful information for those bees who are considering taking BBT:

    Source: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/courses/lesson.php?p=1;8;0;0

Some important guidelines to follow when taking your BBT

Please note that these are ideal guidelines. The realities of your life may make meeting these ideals difficult or impossible at times. Ovulation can usually be detected even under less than ideal condition. The closer you can get to the ideal, however, the more accurate and reliable your ovulation detection, analysis and interpretation will be.

    1. Take your temperature as soon as you wake up, after a solid block of sleep, before moving around..

    2. Take your temperature at the same time every morning.

    3. Take your temperature after at least three consecutive hours of sleep.

    4. Keep your thermometer accessible from your bed so you do not have to get up to get it.

    5. Use the same thermometer throughout your cycle if possible. If it breaks or the battery dies and you use a new one, make a note of it on your chart.

    6. Temperatures can be taken orally or vaginally but it is important to be consistent throughout the cycle since the temperature range may vary. Most women prefer to take their temperatures orally, however, when temperature patterns are unclear, switching to vaginal temperature-taking for the next cycle sometimes makes the pattern clearer.

Fall activities you are looking forward to: NFL!!! Love watching the Steelers with DH!

    Today is cycle day: 7
    TTC cycle: 6
    Baby: #1
POAS date: probably around the 22nd or so? (I have long cycles)
Plan this month: continue tracking BBT, add OPKs. I have ones from the dollar store but I may splurge on the expensive ones with the smiley face. Also increased BD frequency. I am also going to call my gynecologist to go in and talk things over with her. I have a feeling she won't do anything because it's only been 6 cycles (7 months), but my problem is my luteal phase is only 8 days, so maybe there is something easy she can have me try (progesterone maybe?).

Fall activities: well, in south Florida it's going to still be summer until like, December, so I'll say going to the beach and watching college football

TMI question, but does anyone know how EWCM relates to ovulation? Like if you have it for several days, where in that period does ovulation supposedly occur? EWCM started on Friday and is still going on now. I was thinking I ovulated Sunday night or Monday since I had some slight cramping too, but the fact I still have EWCM on Tuesday is confusing me. We BD on Friday and Saturday but I have a bad cold now, so that's the end of that for this cycle - just wondering if we were too early!

Oh and DH is anti-OPK because we just started TTC and he doesn't want me to stress about it, so I don't have the OPK to confirm.

  31. ballerinabee

    apricot / 452 posts

@ BigSkyGirl: thanks! I think that's the brand I have. For some reason if I temp vaginally, I usually don't hear it beep that it's done. It's like it just shuts itself off! No idea why. It's possible that it just doesn't work reliably and I should replace it.

@SeptMomma12: The explanation below is from Fertility Friend's Q&A (I took out some of the verbiage on temps since you're not charting):
    http://www.fertilityfriend.com/Faqs/Eggwhite-Cervical-Fluid-after-Ovulation.html

Some cervical fluid after ovulation is possible because the corpus luteum, though its main function is to produce progesterone, produces estrogen in small amounts. This may cause you to see some fertile-looking cervical fluid, even after ovulation.

If other signs show clearly that you have already ovulated, then you can be confident that you are no longer fertile. It is also not uncommon to confuse semen and eggwhite or watery cervical fluid. Some women also notice some fertile-looking cervical fluid just before menstruation.

Keep on considering the possibility that you are still fertile as long as you see fertile cervical fluid to make sure you don't miss a chance to conceive.

@ballerinabee: Thank you! That's very helpful. I am going to assume I O'd yesterday based on the cramping. Hopefully O-2 and O-3 will do the trick!

@SeptMomma12: Any time! Thank goodness for FF - I learned so much when we were TTC our 1st. Fingers crossed you catch the egg!

    pear / 1849 posts

@ballerinabee: We were never really TTC with our first - decided to just stop preventing and literally had a positive test 2 weeks later. So I feel like a novice this time around!

  35. ballerinabee

    apricot / 452 posts

@SeptMomma12: It only took us 3 cycles for my 2.5 year old, but this go around has been rough. We've been trying since May of last year, with a couple of months off this Spring because I had some nerve ablation done in my spine. I am a big science geek, so I loved charting and using OPKs and watching the graph of my temps and such. <dork> My husband wanted the laid back approach this time, and it hasn't worked out so well for us. I've had 2 chemical pregnancies, and nothing else. So, now I'm just using OPKs (the cheapie wondfos). If this cycle is a bust, I'll have bloodwork on cycle day 3 (and see if I need any kind of help), and chart and use OPKs. Secondary IF is frustrating (and I'm not sure if I can call it that? I'm not sure how long you have to try before it's technically secondary IF).

    Whoa, novel.

I think I will be rescheduling my POAS date to the 9th tentatively. According to my chart, I don't think I've O'd yet, but I'm waiting for tomorrow temp, because if it goes up, then today is definitely O day!!

@ballerinabee: I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with #2 Fingers crossed this is your month! I feel like TTC #2 is more stressful for me at least. DS happened so quick I didn't have time to think about it and "thinking" is never good for me! This is our second month trying but our timing was so off last month (O-5) I'm not really counting it mentally. Getting a cold this month is a huge bummer. (Not as big a bummer as your back problems though! I had a cardiac ablation almost 2 years ago - not fun.)

  40. ballerinabee

    apricot / 452 posts

@SeptMomma12: I think TTC #2 has definitely been more stressful for me for a variety of reasons. I'm not getting any younger (I'll be 37 in Sept), and having a toddler adds stress. Plus my job post-maternity leave has been a lot more stressful (new and greater responsibilities, which is good, but a lot). All of that certainly doesn't help with conceiving! (not to mention the back pain). Whine whine... Life is good overall, so it's all good. We'll get there. Cardiac ablation sounds scary! I'm glad you're doing well. My Dad had to have one last summer because he had a-fib after a thoracotomy. His worked like a charm, thankfully.
