but of course it's in one of the worst parts of the city :(:( ugh.
always a catch...
crazy part is, it's uber cheap - we would EASILY be able to afford it and our mortgage would be less than our rent right now. But everyone I've shown it too told me not to move to that area. Especially my parents (they grew up in that area).
Such a disappointment :(:(

Aw that sucks that it's in a bad neighborhood!... hence the cheap price! Keep looking - you'll find something eventually!

@Mrs. Sunglasses: well my parents are nearly 50, and it's been like that since they were kids. My mom grew up there and used to get bullied on the way home from school for being white 
I heard from someone it's getting a little better, but nowhere near appropriate for a white family with a baby.

@looch: My dad said we're the wrong color. There is huge racial discrimination against white people in the area. I don't mind diversity but I don't want my son bullied for his skin color. It's a cheaper area, so lower income families and yes a higher crime rate.

@Coco Bee: Yeah, with those issues in the neighborhood, I wouldn't risk it either. I know that sometimes neighborhoods can turn around, but those qualities seem to be sticking around from what you said

It's a gorgeous house! I lived in a majority black neighborhood and had a really good experience. (east Oakland, so no joke!). My one break in was from a white serial rapist. Don't worry, I closed the window on him and kept him out. I ran to my African American neighbors who used to look out for me.

@Coco Bee: it's really beautiful! I would still go see it and check out the neighborhood. Drive around and see what you can see. You never know, neighborhoods can change pretty quickly! But, if it's still bad then something else will surely come along:)

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh don't get me wrong - I would be totally happy in a majority black neighborhood - I am definitely not racist myself and I love diversity and honestly a huge draw for me to move to the cities is that my son would grow up in a diverse city (whereas in my rural town there is NO diversity).... however, given what my mom went thru as a kid, it does scare me and I want to protect my son above all else.
@regberadaisy: I know, I have always wanted a home like that. There aren't many outside the cities, but in the cities all the pretty ones seem to be in the bad parts of town! I would live there if it was just me and DH honestly. lol a baby changes EVERYTHING.
@bpcmarj: I've thought about that... we'll probably be going down to the cities sometime this week to check out some apartments anyhow.

@Coco Bee: We've had a lot of home sales in our area recently. It's not uncommon for prospective homeowners to walk the neighborhood, talk to neighbors, and get a feel for themselves. Maybe you could do that so you get feel out the vibe yourself? Neighborhoods do go through periods of chance, so maybe that one is. If not and you get a bad vibe, maybe it will make you feel at more peace with it not being your dream home.

I feel you. There's an area around here that has the cutest old craftsman homes, but the area is so bad. I'd much, much rather live in a home I didn't 100% love in a safe area then a beautiful house where my family isn't safe. I'm sure you guys will find something workable that you can call home in the area you feel good about! It just takes time.

@Coco Bee: Milwaukee is an extremely segregated city, and I live in a primarily African American neighborhood, and we love all of our neighbors!! We fit in perfectly, even being a different race. We all look out for each other, and watch each others houses. Our neighborhood is known for some gang break ins once and awhile, but now our community has been a lot more aware of the situation and have been addressing it for a few years now.
I just mention this because even though it might be a segregated neighborhood you might get along terrific with the neighbors anyway. I just thought I would share my story! I wouldn't change my decision of buying this house in a heartbeat. Plus it was a steal!
