DH and I apparently grew up singing this different ways, and I didn't realize there were variations!

Sounds like the second one was made up by a parent desperately trying to sing to a grumpy kid and couldnt remember a good nursery rhyme

It was always "man who had a dog" not farmer, but that second version is definitely not right. I agree with @Mrs. Lion's assessment!

My mother taught us a totally incorrect version of patty cake. It makes my husband laugh when I sing/play it with DD!

My DH sings twinkle twinkle little star as "up above the world so bright, like a diamond in the night."
