We are still exploring diapering options (CD v. disposable), but if we do the disposable route I still want something that has less chemicals that than the traditional diapers. If you use disposables, which do you prefer? Seventh Generation or Honest Co? Or is there something out there that is even better?

I used seventh gen for DD and using Honest for DS.
I like Honest only because they're cute.
Not a fan of their wipes though. Like Seventh gen's a lot better.

I hated honest. I liked baby naty care in the early days and now like seventh gen. We do cloth except for overnight!

7th generation uses brown dye to get their natural look, so I wasn't buying in to that. Honest is super expensive. We used earth's best and we really like them. No leaks, no chlorine bleach and a natural based filler. No scent either, which I loved.
We cloth diapered for our first daughter, which was great.
Sadly, we've left the diaper phase behind

we LOVE earth's best when we use disposables. super absorbent. no leaks. we use CDs mostly, but disposables when we travel.

I don't know why but I had some honest size 1 and they had no smell, and then the honest size two had a perfume-y smell. seventh generation smells like wet cardboard to me when they were wet and I preferred the non-scentedness of honest size 1

The fact that 7th Generation dyes their bleached diapers brown to make them look "natutal" really bugs me. I don't want to support a company like that. So if I were to use a disposable (big cloth fans here!), it would probably be Honest or Earth's Best.

I am a big fan of honest diapers because it helped get rid of a stubborn diaper rash for DD when she was 3 months old. It doesn't leak for us and it works great for overnight diapers for DD.

Have you looked into gDiapers? It's a hybrid system, you can go all cloth or use disposable inserts that are 100% biodegradable (they are even flushable!!!). I blogged about them and can wall you the post if interested. I have used them 90% of the time for my two LOs.

I have used Huggies natural care, honest, seventh gen, whole foods 365 brand, Bambo Nature and Target's up and up brand; in that order. I still use Bambo Nature at night. They are my favorite by far and I will probably start baby #2 in them. I do love the cute Honest prints and never had leaking issues. I just used more than their monthly bundle so I often had to scramble to supplement. I can see using them again for Baby #2 when he is past the infant stage. Unfortunately, it seems my favorites are the priciest, though I am currently balancing that cost out with using Up and Up by day.

7th gen is a local company, so it's the only option available at our co-op. We use them when we travel (cloth otherwise) and they've been great.

I think both 7th gen and earths best contain an "oil based chemical" (polymer gel?) to assist with absorption. I mean, layers of paper aren't going to absorb much on their own. There has to be something else in there.

@Silva: my understanding (and this could be wrong because it's been awhile since I did the research) is that earth's best uses a corn based absorbent filler.

@Mrs. Jacks: could be, I just did a quick google and the first results said they used the polymer gel. We use them rarely, so I've never been that concerned about it.

@lamariniere: I've looked into gDiapers and other cloth diapers, but I was also wanting to do some research on disposable diapers that weren't as "unhealthy" as the traditional disposables. I don't actually know that many people who use gDiapers so I'd be interested to read your blog on the topic. Thanks!
It's interesting hearing the mamas who do a combination of cloth and disposable -- that might be worth looking into too! I need to do some research to see if daycare in the area will accept babies with CDs since I will be a WOHM.

@Mrs. Jacks: I don't think they're all that expensive. We do the monthly bundle with extra wipes and it lasts us two months. That is $40-$45/month. The same price I've seen many say they pay for amazon subscribe and save.

oooh super helpful thread! we're going to be going this route as well (we live in an apt with no washer/dryer so cloth diapering isn't a feasible option for us...). my sil told me honest co has worked better for my nieces than 7th gen, but it seems like from these responses maybe it just depends on the baby sometimes? I feel like we might try a mix until we figure out what works...I like the idea of the honest bundle though since we'll probably be ordering online for the most part

@Mrs. Pen: yep, I find that the monthly bundle usually lasts us close to 2 months - we just now used up the bundle from mid-Dec.
I usually find discount codes, too, so pay much less full price. I think price is same as what I used to pay for a box of pampers sensitive swaddlers.
I really like honest dipes but we didn't use them until she was a toddler so I don't know how well they contain NB explosive poops. There have been a couple mornings when her dipes have leaked, but I think it's bc she peed a ton!

I haven't used 7th gen. We used earths best when DS was a newborn for a while and I hated them. Constant blowouts and they felt way too big ( and he was a big baby). We ended up using pampers swaddlers for a long time and we switched to honest maybe 6 months ago? I love the honest diapers. It also usually lasts us closer to 2 months as well.

@pinkcupcake: I did for awhile - but they mostly restrict coupon codes to new members. Same, we started using them at 7 months when we moved to an apartment with no in-unit w/d.
@nana87: yeah I think that's kind of how it is. TBH my son has never had leaks with any brand - so all of them have worked for us. I think some people jump on a wagon to say so and so is such an awful brand because it leaked - but really one diaper can't possibly fit every kid perfectly. They're all great brands but you have to find what works for your kid.

I used seventh until she started really blowing out! She is tall and skinny and we actually switched to target after some advice from another bee. We used seventh for... 6-7 months? After that they didn't fit her well or catch as much poo and I was goin batty.
I didn't like honest because *okay this is embarrassing and maybe just me* but *okay I realize I sound like an idiot* I need to move quickly while changing her (she is amaz.ing.ly. difficult to change and I am an experienced nanny) and it was more difficult to tell the front of the diaper. I just remember in my early newborn lack of sleep I felt the pattern made the front and back look too similar. I also disliked paying $6 for a trial. However, honest would actually save us money... maybe. Then again we go through so many wipes maybe not as we would have to purchase additional. We also fly through diapers.
So, wipes are our biggest expense. I like the seventh wipes otherwise h20 water wipes are the best. Earths best are good too and so are baby ganics.

We love Seventh Gen-any time we try another brand, we veer into rash territory.

I am totally interested in gDiapers as the perfect mix between cloth and disposable diapers. Plus they are so cute!
Not a fan of their wipes though. Like Seventh gen's a lot better.
