Our Shark Steam Mop seems to have done kaputz. It doesn't put out steam anymore all of the sudden. I contacted CS and got instructions to try and fix it, but it's not working. It's 3.5 years old, so I'm wondering if it's just time to get a new one. It's just odd that it suddenly stopped working. If you've had a Shark Steam Mop that suddenly died, about how long did you have before that happened? Thanks!

@shopaholic: ours easy almost exactly at the four year mark that some gasket or something broke and it was dead. I guess they are only like $100 so you can't expect them to live forever.

Yes ours is 3 years old and dying. I'm going to try a different brand next time because that is way too soon considering we don't use it very heavily.

Ours died at 2 years but I used it a lot - like 2-3x a week. I bought a Bissell instead and am so happy with it! They have a longer warranty period and when my vacuum broke, they sent me a brand new one immediately. Plus I feel like it gets the floors cleaner than the Shark and it's easier to push. Oh, and it's much easier to fill it with water than the Shark!
Just much better all around, Imo

It wasn't a steam mop but I had a cordless vacuum that barely made it a year. They just make cheap stuff IMO. Never buying another shark.

We've had ours for 4 years, but I hardly ever use it. It wasn't working well for a few months, but then it started up again. It was like the place where the steam came out was clogged and then unclogged.

It's way too early and I kept reading shark "beam" mop. I was imagining fish. Omg, I need to crawl back into bed!

Ughh... of course this happened about a month after not using because I couldn't find the mop covers and ordered a bunch of new ones. I don't mind having to get another one, I just wondered how long they usually last.

We've had two and they both suddenly died. I'm over it and not buying another Shark. I kept the unit and use the cloths and just use it as a mop with vinegar + water solution. Does a great in cleaning my floors!

@shopaholic: @regberadaisy: Bissell power fresh steam mop. It's AWESOME. It's still annoying buying mop heads but this one works so much better than the Shark. I think using distilled water will also help prolong the life of the mop.

Ours only lasted 2 years, I'm still so pissed about it. Never using their products again. Basically they gave me the option of shipping it to North Carolina for $75 to have it repaired. I'd rather put that money towards a mop that will actually work.
I have only used distilled water and used it less than once a week. Still undecided what I'm going to switch to, until then, I'm using the swiffer mop.

Ours died around that time too. We decided to get a bona. So far we love it.
