Am I crazy? Can it be done?
I have to go on a business trip to the UK for a week, and while I am gone, I plan to pump at least twice a day to try to keep my supply up. Is there anyway I will be able to ship that breastmilk back to the states or will I just end up having to dump it all? Does anyone have any experience with this? DD is almost 10 months old and I am planning to wean her when she turns one, so is it better to just forget it and either wean early?
I'm so confused about what to do.

If you pump twice a day for 7 days that would be 14 bags of frozen milk. I think they would let you carry it on the plane home!

I think it can be done. I assume you would need a good cooler and probably a block of dry ice.
What about pumping while there and then carrying it home with you? You may have to dump some but not all.

I am thinking about carrying it back on the flight. How long can I have it in the cooler with the dry ice before it becomes an issue? Probably my best shot. Guess I just need to figure out where in Wales I can purchase some dry ice!
I feel encouraged, I might have to give it a shot. I can't bear to waste all the milk.

ETA: I expressed extra milk while on vacation (LO was with) and packed it in a cooler with ice to being home. It was fine and we used it as fresh milk with an 8 day fridge life since it was past the 24 hours to freeze. I stored it in a quart sized container instead of bags...I understand in your situation you would need to freeze though, but packing with dry ice should do the trick for the trip home. Just check with the airline first.

@plantains: I carried milk home across country in a plastic cooler with regular ice. The milk was still separated (fat from the milk) when I got home over 12 hours later.

Update: for anyone wanting to know, I was able to pump and freeze all my milk in hotel freezer along with some ice packs. At Heathrow, they wouldn't let me carry the milk on the flight with me, they made me check it in. The airline double wrapped it for me and marked it extremely fragile. Milk was still frozen when I got back to my apt in the US, so success all round.
